This is sweet news...

NEW YORK -- SNY, the official television home of the New York Mets, today announced that the network will produce every New York Mets regular season game -- in 2008 and beyond -- in High Definition.

Cablevision's IO Digital Cable will serve as the presenting HD sponsor for Mets in-game telecasts, as well as the network's pre- and postgame shows. SNY's HD programming roster now showcases an incredible array of dramatic sports programming including New York Mets games and other Mets programs and an extensive lineup of New York Jets programming, as well as the network's critically acclaimed sports news programs and original entertainment programming.

SNY also announced its 2008 Mets regular season telecast schedule, which features more than 120 exclusive games beginning on March 31 at 4 p.m. -- when the Mets take on the Florida Marlins. Calling the action all season long is SNY's Emmy nominated broadcast team, led by play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen and game analysts Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling. Ralph Kiner will also return to the broadcast booth as a contributing analyst. They are joined by Mets field reporter Kevin Burkhardt, who will provide in-game interviews with players, coaches and other personalities in attendance as part of the unique perspective he brings to the broadcast. The network will also add more production enhancements to its Emmy-nominated Mets broadcast coverage, including additional cameras to cover every angle and all the action like never before.

In addition, before and after every Mets telecast on SNY, viewers can look forward to the most comprehensive pre- and postgame shows as former New York Met and big-league Manager Lee Mazzilli again teams with host Matt Yallof to provide the keys to the game and break down all the action afterwards. Viewers will get to see all of Mets Manager Willie Randolph's postgame press conferences and all player interviews exclusively on SNY.

Bill Webb and Greg Picker return in their roles as director and producer, respectively, for all SNY produced Mets telecasts.

Awe-some!

That was something that stuck in my craw last year - only Met home games on SNY were in HD.

Meanwhile every single Yankee game was HiDef. I learned more about the Yankees last year then I ever wanted to know (Derek Jeter's preferred hair style for example) simply because watching baseball in HiDef was just so alluring.

Just in time! Bought a nice 42" HDTV last weekend.

HD is so good for watching sports. It's like switching from black and white to color. Amazing.
There are a lot of nice TVs out there these days, but a friend of mine has the 46" Sony LCD, and it's really nice. I have a smaller Panasonic plasma, which is the right size for my house and has a really nice picture, but is a much heavier TV and doesn't have the PC input. My friend can watch downloaded movies and tv shows in HD just by plugging the TV into his laptop as a second monitor--amazing.

I've got a 61" Panasonic plasma in the den (I know, right?) and a 42" Sharp LCD in my bedroom.

Besides the fact that the picture quality is great (little better on the plasma I think but they both have their advantages), the TVs being flat are a space saving bonus.

I get a lot less HD channels than I do regular channels but I don't watch anything other than HD anymore. If its not HiDef soupy don't watch it.

It's that much of a difference. Once you start watching in HD, you can't go back.

I dunno. While visiting my sister and her family in NJ last summer, my brother-in-law constantly switched from an HD to a regular Yankee feed.

For the life of me, I couldn't see a difference, which infuriated my host, who thought I was merely pulling his leg.
