="KC"]I propose we set up tailgatecentral here:

It's a three minute walk for those taking the subway, four if you're fat, but it's
the best place to arrive early by car and not get caught up in the mess that
is Shea parking 2008.

Are all those blue dots where Aaron Heilman pitches wind up?

Well, I got my Irish Stout aging in my basement. I tried a bottle of it a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty tasty. I will bring extra because I think that, with this team, we are going to need as much alcohol as possible.

But anyway, what is that in the parking lot anyway? It is really confusing me. Is it some kind of fair?

I went to the game on Mother's day and my friend parked right under the bridge just north of that little round-about. (A lot has changed since that picture). I was waiting for him to show up and he got there just before the game started and had no problem parking there. Take that for what it is worth. . . but my gut tells me that, especially if we are getting there early, that X spot is a good spot to meet. So unless I am told differently, I will be there with my home brew and I will drink it all by myself if I have to, God damn it!

Unfortunately the New York Water Taxi isn't running a Mets Express this year or it would only be a 1 minute walk to the tailgate from the dock.

I don't want to camp counselor too much, but a couple of things ...

a) the approximate x marks the spot is the spot unless someone brings up
points against.

B) I'll try and be there by 12:45 and I'll bring two grills which I'll try and keep
going until we're ready to pack up.

c) Everyone bring whatever, it's pot luck, not a catered affair -- I will bring
plates, plastic utensils, and paper towels/napkins.

d) Drinking from beer bottles, cans, etc. is illegal ... bring cups and be aware
of roving cops on bikes. We don't want someone's afternoon to be ruined by an
open container summons. The thought of a home-made chicken stout will get
me through the week.

e) A bunch of us should exchange cell phone numbers via email/PM, especially
those traveling from out of town. People who are getting tickets at the tailgate
too.

Ok, that was kinda camp counselorish .... chime in sooner than later if anyone
thinks of anything.

Okay, I'm starting to get pumped for this trip.

My buddy and I will be coming from our hotel in New Jersey by way of the Geoprge Washington Bridge to Whitestone Bridge. I'm assuming I can get to the "X" directly from Northern Blvd.

Anyone up for dinner and a beer after the game? If not can anyone make a suggestion for a suitable post game place to go that's not too hard for a bunch of southerners to find?

Don't quote me on this, but I think you can get there from that round-a-bout (which is no longer a round-a-bout) which is accessible from Northern.

I keep thinking that I'd be able to whisk myself to New York at the last minute but I've come to realize that the combination of my parental responsibilities and that I'm still recovering from a back injury will mean that I won't be able to attend this shindig.

Have fun and wear red pants.

Ok, since I haven't heard any volunteers for food yet, I will be bringing:

Hot Dogs
Buns
Condiments

I'll be in the Shea lot beyond the CitField left field wall with my family. I suggested going to the CPF gathering, but Mrs. Solo gave me the look, you know, the "you're not dragging us across that highway to meet up with a bunch of people you don't even know" look.

If anybody treks through that lot on their way to red X, I'll be in my Mookie jersey and my 4-yo will be in his black Santana* t-shirt.

HEY! Beer counts as food!

I'd pm-ed my contribution to KC. Just bought eight Tofurky Italian sausages and matching whole wheat buns at my local Trader Joe's (yeah, I fit pretty easily into a demographic).

I cannibalized one of AG's posts and created a table below. No clue why there's all this space between this sentence and the table.

I'll make two hot things. They'll be a surprise because I don't know what they
are yet ... but they'll be hot.

I'm contemplating bringing Carolina pork barbeque and buns for sandwiches. I think I can run a small crock pot from the auxillary power plug on the Mustang. Of course, we'll have a large cooler of assorted beers and some water.

I don't know if I've ever been to the specified tailgate area, and I don't (yet) know any of your faces... will there be something up to identify the group?

I'll be bringing something extraneous... if I have time to make a dessert I will, but at the least I'll bring some beer. Just ran out of my home-brew a few weeks ago, though, so I can't quite match holychicken.

I haven't parked over there in awhile, we're winging it. I hope the X really
does mark the spot. I have a light green Honda CRV if that helps anyone.

I'll also exchange cell phone numbers with most of you if you ask and are
willing to sign a short disclaimer form that I had our people prepare.

I can prolly commit to a pack of twizzlers right now. Not sure how the day is going to play out and will likely lean toward taking the train. If so, with a 2 year old in tow, a covered dish or a cold dessert is a pipe dream.

Posted

With a two-year-old of our own, we'll likely bring some Goldfish and a stack of diapers.

Seriously, we'll try to contribute something easy, like a bag of chips or two and a couple jars of salsa.

I'll prolly take the subway so I'd rather not make something which would involve containers and such. So I'll bring chips and some soda for the non-drinkers (I'm not one of those, but Lenny will be with me).

80% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. Is there a contingency for a rainout or at least it being too wet to congregate?

Part of me is thinking it might be safer to just meet over at the restaurant
formerly known as Bobby V's - is that still there? I fear not being able to
get the word out to everyone though. I have some cell numbers.

If we do that, we'd probably take the train in too.

Anybody got a key to the Blue Tarp Lounge?

I found the hotel on 114th street is now a Holiday Inn (I thought it was a
Ramada) and the restaurant is now call Pine Queens.

I know most of you have been there at least once, it's got a big square bar
and family style Italian restaurant.

I guess we'll give it until 2:00 pm today for people to chime in and then ...

By the way the former Bobby Vee's tonight is the site of a MBTN book event. If you are going to the game 2nite stop by and have a beer and a schmooze.

NOAA - Corona, New York

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 76. South wind between 11 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night:
Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. West wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

-----------------

Well that's better than damaging winds and hail I heard somewhere else!!!

I'm disappointed by the forecast as well, and while I suspect we may be able to get the tailgate in, I would advocate that it's going to be more effective to move it inside simply to ensure that the gathering actually happens.

1:30 PM at the bar?

This game may be cancelled Saturday morning.

Put me down for a vote for 1:30 at The Restaurant Formerly Known As
Bobby V's. It occurs to me that people with kids might envision that not
working but we can get a big table in the restaurant and order appetizers
and stuff?

Chime in people, golf umbrellas and wet bbq or mussels marinara and beer?

I am down with the bar, the only problem is that it means no chicken stout. Which means more for me, which is fine by me. :)

I think we should wait til tomorrow morning to make the call on whether to go to the bar. The tailgate thingee sounds like more fun as once you're at a table it becomes difficult to talk to people who aren't in your necka the woods unlike the mingling possibilities of the great outdoors. I'll be there either way.

I agree with making the call tomorrow. We're figuring on leaving home around 1:00ish, getting to the park around 2:00-2:30ish.

Hopefully they've made a play-or-no-play decision by then.
