Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Hard to say. Which fabricated media event filled with inane questions is biggest?I'll take it because I have a Met problem. I'll even start the thread. But they're almost guaranteed to be silly affairs. I'm just hoping for a shot of Yasmile for the database.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Santana's English tic is apparently "good time". He said some variation on "I'm just going to have a good time" several times in the Q&A and again with Kevin Burkhardt, though by then I think he was looking forward to having a great time.As one who muddled through six years of junior high and high school Spanish, I'm always amazed that these guys converse like it's no big deal in their second language.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 ="Benjamin Grimm"]="A Boy Named Seo"]I believe I've got my UMDB mug shot!Seems natural enough with Omar, but out on the ledge of the press level, he has this "I signed with WHO?" look on his face.

Anticipated Verducci question: "Are you disappointed that you're on the Mets instead of the Yankees, where you could learn intangibles from Derek Jeter?"Trust me, at an event like this, no one is going to ask a good question. They'll wait until they have one-on-one interviews.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 El Diario pretty much asked that. He evaded with a solid bromide smacked up the middle.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Watching the replay of the conference now online, looks great in that blue hat.Santana speaks great English for a second language.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I keep forgetting that Luis Castillo is a Met.My brain must be trying to block out the last month or so of the 2007 season. It's nice that Castillo played a role, however small, in helping bring Santana to the Mets. (I remember Pete Harnisch tried to do something similar with Craig Biggio, although Biggio was a free agent at the time.)I had said a few times in several threads this winter that my anticipation for the new season just wasn't kicking in. Now it's fully kicked in. I'm VERY eager for the new season to start. And I'm also very much hoping that Johan pitches the spring training game I'll be attending next month in St. Lucie.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 ="A Boy Named Seo"]This one's cool. Beautiful! Damn, those pinstripes and blue caps are things of beauty. You have the same look as Seaver and Koosman and Ryan and Matlack and, save for the racing stripes, Gooden and Franco. He looks like on of US, if that makes sense.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I'm still not crazy about the drop-shadow. But I'm not going to bitch. Those are beautiful.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 This picture is so dorky. It reminds me of those insufferable posed shots that wedding photographers think are so clever.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 'Twas fun listening to Jeffie claim that they didn't go past their standards for this contract. His spin is that it isn't a 7-year deal but actually just a 5-year since Johan was already signed for 2008 (even though they tore that one up and tacked it on to the entire deal) and that the final year is an option.Oh, OK.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My first glimpse of the patch in action. That will start to look normal to us soon.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I think it's obvious we're going to see some changes to the uni next year.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Oh, and I TiVoed the press conference to watch when I got home, but it was unwatchable. Too tedious. I'll read the best quotes in the paper tomorrow. Watching the press conference was too much like watching sausage being made.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 You see - I got no problem with the dot.I'll sign your orange dot petition if you sign my drop shadow one.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I just want the pinstripes back on a regular basis. I can live with the drop shadow. I can even tolerate the orange dot so long as the team is deck out in the white with blue pinstripes.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Santana will be making the Phillies lineup feel ill soon enough. I'm hoping that Santana fever reaches epidemic proportions this season.
