Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I love 'em. I just think death announcements and silent threads shouldn't be the same thread. People get all silent in a thead and those of us already talking feel stupid. We need one place to talk about these folks, and one not to.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Good Seaver post, even if the avatar isn't working.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I don't even know how you all post a silent post; it won't let me post nothing.
Guest cooby Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 sealwolf, didn't your English teachers teach you nothing? Don't use double negatives!
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Hit the space bar twice, like Han Solo after a particularly difficult Kessel Run.

Some people have a great story to tell at the wake, some people just shuffle quietly past the coffin. This is especially true for those of you who say actually know who Don Cardwell is as opposed to those of us who just want to show a bit of respect to a former Met.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Two blank spaces qualifies as a post, and you're allowed to submit it.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Oh yes I get that. But what about the Kessel run? He did it under 12 parsecs you know.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Yes, I've heard. What it is --- is a convolutedly awkward reference. See, after a run like that, Han would want to hit a bar. Maybe twice. In space.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Don't mind me. Clever puns go over my head quite often. Was it 12 or 5? Or 6? I can't get it to sound right in my head.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Less than 12 parsecs is correct.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Seeing as a parsec is an actual measure of distance, rather than a unit of time, Hahn Solo was way off base with his boasts. Not that I actually knew any difference at the time, but 1 Parsec = 3.08568025 10 to the 16th power meters. Still it is a fine scene in a great movie, despite Solo's confusion regarding parsecs.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Fans have spent 30 years going to great lengths --- great lengths --- explaining how Solo's usage makes sense. Such explanations usually include phrases like, "This was the Kessel Run, after all...."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I know they're talking about Star Wars, but beyond that I'm lost.
