nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 ]I actually don't think this is all that ridiculous. Feliz probably should have won, but he can't hit his way out of a paper bag and Wright's definitely not the first player to get bonus GG points with his batno, he's not. but it is ridiculous that a guy's hitting should matter even one iota.

"Certainly the guys with the least amount of errors and best fielding percentage quite obviously didn't win it." The report also quoted Jones as saying, "I wouldn't have been disappointed had someone like [Pedro] Feliz or [Aramis] Ramirez won it. I'm a little confused by the final tally, that's a head-scratcher for me."Wright told The New York Post: "I don't take anything he says to heart. Obviously I think I can be better defensively. But I have a Gold Glove, and that's the bottom line, and that's something I'm very proud of, and I feel like I'm getting better and better defensively, and obviously managers and coaches have seen that."Source: New York Post

Wright's defense has improved over the past two seasons, but there are still other third basemen better and more deserving than Wright. Feliz, Zimmerman, and Ramirez come to mind.

It's more fun to just call Larry Jones names because of who he is, I guess.

"There aren't too many people out there that can say they won a Gold Glove, whether there are questions behind it or not. It's unexpected as any individual award is unexpected, but I'm going to put that right in the middle of my trophy case."

Doug Flynn's award, in fact, may have been a backlash on his slight of a year earlier.
