Radio won't even name a player of the game. They gave it to the fans who showed up.

Kind of amazing that our pen allowed one run in 8.2 innings.

I resigned myself to this fate after the loss to Washington on Tuesday night at Shea. I was quite honestly more surprised by the team actually winning a game yesterday, than I am by today's loss.

I guess I was prepared for this. I saw it coming since two weeks ago today.

There have been a few times in the past two weeks when I've allowed myself to become a little optimistic, but, well, I smelled a stink on this team and I guess my nose knows.

I wish I was wrong!

Hockey season. Hot damn!

I hate to say this, but I have a feeling the Mets will not be anywhere close to contention next year.

Teams rarely, if ever, come back from a regular season meltdown like this (I'm not counting postseason meltdowns like the 2004 Yankees) and in some cases it can take over a decade just to return to contention.

This team just kept the inevitable from happening tomorrow or Tuesday or a week from Tuesday.

This ballclub was just not good enough, and it's been evident for weeks if not months.

I see virtually no similarity between Yancy having lost faith in this teams ability to make the post season two weeks ago and SJR stating that he lost faith in them for the season and further more doubts they can contend in the future, possibly for the next decade. Yancy was just acknowledging and accepting the harsh reality of the Mets collapse. SJR has completely overreacted to the effects of this late season collapse. No similarity at all in my view.

Phillies wouldn't be back into contention untill 1976, it would take the Red Sox untill 1986 to climb back to the top of the AL East.

Maybe the 51 and 62 Dodgers are your best examples (back-to-back NL champs followed The Miracle of Coogan's Bluff and the 63 Dodgers won the World Championship) of teams that did bounce back. Do you see this sorry bunch doing that in 2008?

Somebody at FAN has a perverse sense of humor. Before the highlights, they usually have a player that did well in the game say "This is X and you're listening to Mets Extra....." Today, they used Glavine.

Well when its two examples out of how many? Yeah it does.

What did the Cubs do after 1969?
What did the Giants do after 1993?

Yancys a Met fan with a good sense of smell.

I dunno what to make of you Stevesky, with your horrible attitude and evolving similar personality. You used to be a poster Id be eager to read.
No more my friend.

Okay, enuff of this personal attack shit.
Sorry, had to say that.
I'm all vented.

I'm trying to think of an up side, and all I can come up with is last time the Phils were in the post season I went to my only world series game.
I know people who know people around here.

But sad truth is, the ticket could come to me free of charge and I wouldn't wanna go.
I'd probly tear it up.

How did the 2007 Red Sox do?

You're going through your usual tactic, SJR, of deciding on a conclusion first then cherry-picking only that evidence which supports the pre-determined answer and ignoring or discounting anything that doesn't.

Again, if you want to discuss a topic you've got the entire board and 5 months to make your case. But at least be prepared to bring something to the table aside from some knee-jerk reaction with little forethought and questionable evidence.

Its not cherry picking when its few and far between And yes the Sox last year gave up after the sweep by the Yankees in Fenway, but that isn't one of the most historic collapses in baseball history. No one puts them on the same pedestal as the 64 Phillies, 78 Red Sox, 07 Mets.
