Putting pressure on the pen, and on Willie to go to deeper into it.

I agree. One of the reasons the pen has been such a problem is because they've been getting a lot of work.

More starts that last seven or eight innings would go a long way.

I thought Glavine would get it done for us last night. I think Pedro can give us six tonight. If he goes seven, it will be for the first time this year.

I'm less confident in Perez on Saturday and not at all confident in Maine on Sunday.

Of course, which is why I mostly reject the notion that if only Willie were using the pen in some sort of different order or combinations that these games would be turning out differently.
Sometime, somewhere, and at some point somebody has got to start getting some outs.

Well, my informal poll of disgruntled Williohating Met fans over three days at RFK are either confident that Humber and Collazo (or, as they say, "whathisname") would do better, or --- that old chestnut --- they couldn't do any worse.

I hate this chestnut, because (1) it's logically untrue, (2) the idea is to find who is most likely to do well, not who can't do any worse.

All that said, I'd love to push Humber and Collazo into a little bit more of a high-leverage situation, and I'm hugely confident Willie would be widely ripped for it if they failed.

¿Donde esta Carlos Muniz?

Muniz Gets the Call from Desperate Mets
With Billy Wagner's back barking, the bullpen in disarray and the season on the verge of collapsing, the Mets will call up minor-league closer Carlos Muniz tonight, according to person familiar with the decision.

Muniz, 26, played collegiately at Long Beach State. He was 2-4 with a 2.45 ERA and 23 saves in 44 games at Double-A Binghamton, then moved to Triple-A on Aug. 29. He had been slated to represent the Mets in the Arizona Fall League.

That;s Adam Rubin's blog. Go 'Los!

Wow, my keyboard to Minaya's telephone!

I've got to wonder about these things more often.

Donde esta el segundo de Juan Marichal, por favor?
