Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Atlanta's tragic number?
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 Au revoir, Cardinaux.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 And for the 7th year in a row we will have a new MLB World Champion! And 11th different NL champ since the 95-96 Braves.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Detroit and Seattle are staying alive in their respective divisions, Arizona can end the Dodgers NL West reign tonight. The Red Sox with their win tonight clinched a playoff spot, which means Detroit pretty much needs to win every game and hope the Indians and Yankees lose every game. FWIW the Yankees number for both the Mariners and Tigers stands at 3.And heading into the final week of the regular season, only the Tigers and Mariners are barely alive in the AL but 5 teams are still alive in the NL Wild Card (Phillies (1 game back right now), Rockies (3 games back), Braves (5 games back), Dodgers (6.5) and Brewers (6.5)Also in the NL, along with the Phillies the Braves are still "breathing." Well, the number to continue the current streak of years without a division championship is now at 1. Same for the Dodgers in the NL West, but the Rockies at 4 and Padres at 8 are still left to deal with. The Brewers are the last team left battling in the Central.

Not the 11th different franchise as the Cards and Marlins have won twice in that time frame, and we all hope the Mets will make it a threesome this year for that time frame.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Steve, your meaning was not abundantly clear. Like Yancy, I too was confused as to what your true meaning was. What you meant to convey and what you wrote were not the same.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 The Dodgers have been eliminated in the NL West. They have a tragic number of 2 for the wild card. The Mariners have a tragic number of 1, and the Tigers have a tragic number of 2. The Braves' tragic number for the NL East is 2, and 4 for the wild card.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 The Dodgers are out. The Mariners are out too, if their extra-innings game ends with the current score.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Seattle and the Dodgers are indeed out. The Tigers look for a miracle to keep from being the last AL team eliminated in the regular season.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 And half the National League is still alive, at least mathematically. If Baseball Prospectus' odds turn out to be accurate, the next four teams to be eliminated (prior to the post-season) will be, in order: Atlanta, Milwaukee, Colorado, Philadelphia.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 And the Tigers are out, meaning the AL half of the bracket is set with the Angels, Indians, Red Sox and Yankees all into the postseason. The NL is still up in the air with 8 teams alive and no spots clinched.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 My thoughts exactly Nymr. They'll be cueing the Mets up and adding them to the list soon enough I suspect.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 By allowing themselves to be eliminated, the Braves helped the Mets take one step closer to elimination hell.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Five of the eight teams that made the postseason last year are gone. Yankees are in (gag) and the Mets and Padres are still alive.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 It's amazing that Chicago is the first to clinch with the worst record of the playoff teams. The Brewers played harder than they have in years, but fell a bit short. The Mets have to win to stay off this list tomorrow.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Ouch. He did it. I welcome the pain. I listened to Mad Dog on the way home. I watched Baseball Tonight. I'm going to look at Transmonk's most recent post in this thread. And I'm going to go watch the last inning of the 2007 NLCS in a few minutes. Does anyone have a Klingon painstick?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Dammit we weren't even the last team to be eliminated. It hurts.
