I finally did what I've been meaning to do for a while and that's look up Burrell's numbers against us compared to what they are everywhere else.
And the weird thing is that it's all very similar ... EXCEPT for HRs.

His BA is actually a shade LOWER vs the Mets and his 2Bs are considerably down. So the only difference is HRs, where his 39 against us (now 40) should really be about 22 or 23 if hit as his usual rate. It's like all his singles and doubles become HRs when facing Met pitching.

Another way to look at it is;
- at his "normal" rate, his overall slugging rate (measured by IsoP) is about the same as David Wright
- against all NON Met teams it's similar to Khalil Greene
- against the Mets it's closest to that of Ryan Howard

And I have no logical explanation for any of those quirks.
I mean this has been going on for 8 years now against all assortment of pitchers, for and against various managers, and in three different stadiums.
I keep thinking it's got to logically begin to revert to his overall norms but it never does.
ABs/HR vs Mets = 11.5
ABs/HR vs non Mets = 20.0

It's like a Seinfeldian conundrum; not only do fans root for laundry, but Par Burrell hits off of laundry.

Sometimes its a teams sentiment is to go out and get a guy who punishes them as Burrell does.

But I swear, if the Mets ever bring Burrell aboard I will no longer consider myself a fan.

And as hard as this will be on me, I can do it with my head held high, no sobbing, as I walk away.

I know cause I did this for 2 years when the Mets traded Seaver in the 70's.

You missed some good seats.

If Seaver is worth two years, what's Burrell worth?

bringing in burrell would be bad not because he's killed us in the past, but rather that he's just not that good against everybody else.

But probably better than Green.

Taking Burrell away from Philly for 18 games a year is nothing to sneeze at, but it might be cheaper to trade for another team's scouting report on the guy.

Yes, I fear he'll come up in the ninth. Thank you for asking.

Has Burrell been a chemically deleterious guy?

Maybe the Mets can just get Burrell and demote him to the minors.

Note: I know this isn't really possible.

Yes, but it is possible to bring him in and break both his kneecaps.

The rest of my life.

But then, I thought exactly that in '77.

But with Burrell gone, I think the Phils would be a nice team to root for.
I almost every game on TV.
Not even an hour away.
Two of my favorite players, right up there with Wright and Reyes, are Utley and Howard.

.....and I dont even freakin believe Im saying this. Ive been a Met fan since 10 yrs old.

Well, the Mets don't have to trade for him to do that.

If we just invite him over for dinner, I think he will catch on. This way, his guard will be down.
