Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I haven't been focusing enough on the important things in life lately. Do we know how long Moises is going to be wandering in the wilderness?
Guest iramets Guests Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Let's get these stock responses out the way:1) At least another 40 Days and 40 Nights2) He will never see the Promised land3) You can kiss My Netherparts--I ain't telling you squat.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Moises Awho ain;t coming back until he's 100%,which maybe never...actually not sure if he or the Mets can even give a time on that.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 So I haven't missed anything? There actually is no discussion at all of a return date for Moises, no updates on his conditioning routine? No Mackey Shilstone? Is Willie pissed? Is Omar pissed?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I think he's supposed to start a rehab assignment this week,or maybe that was last week....the Mets had told him not to do a damn thing for ten days...nothing,not even piss on his hands, then he was to start rehab in FLA...and take ti from there....something like that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Moises to be re-evaluated by doctors a week from today. Then they'll take it from there.iow, not before the AS break.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Wasn't it more than two weeks ago when he made statements to the effect that he could probably return and play, but he did not wish to return until he was 100%? He must be a real slow healer. It seems to me that his desire for a paycheck exceeds his desire to play baseball. I
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 From today's NYTimes:]ALOU WILL BE RE-EVALUATED Moises Alou, out since May 13 with a strained left quadriceps, is scheduled to be re-evaluated Monday by Dr. David Altchek, the team’s medical director. The Mets hope that Alou will return by the end of July. The print edition of the Times had a little more info. The injury was desribed as a tear not a strain and it noted that Alou is feeling 'very good'.Whatever that's worth.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I remember around June 1 his return was imminent. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. Then suddenly the prognosis changed to "not soon."
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Meanwhile, Gomez is just starting to look like a Major League player.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 If he's feeling that good I'd think the target date would be earlier than the trading deadline.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Heck, Gomez is up to .279 and has 8 steals and a couple bombs. Moises who?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I'm intrigued too. But those couple of bombs still only contribute to a .384 slugging percentage. He's welcome to stick around over Ledee if and when Moises* comes back, play defense, and get his at-bats a little more spotted for him. It doesn't have to be an either-or thing. At least, I hope it doesn't.* Alou!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 What happens to Gomez if and when Alou and Chavez comes back....a question Gary Cohen has asked a few times the past few days.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 That's a question that doesn't need to be answered yet.By that time, someone else may be hurt.Or Gomez may not be playing well.Or they can have five outfielders on the team: Gomez, Chavez, Beltran, Alou, and Green.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 True Yancy but I suppose the question is do you want Gomez to be the fifth outfielder, him being 21 and all that .
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 If he's playing well, and it's August? Sure. By then the New Orleans season will be almost over anyway, and he might as well stick around for the ride to the postseason, if the Mets are so fortunate. He'd be a good guy to have on the bench in the playoffs: he can run, he can play defense, and he can hit a little bit too.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I read that Lastings will play his first rehab game in low A ball tonight. If he shows that he is healthy, he might be recalled so that Gomez can (as they used to say ) "get more seasoning".Of course, Lastings may also be used as a trading chip in the rumored trade for a pitcher. (Buherle or Contraras of the ChiSox)Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 For the moment, at least, I'd say that Gomez is more deserving of a spot on the big league roster than Milledge is.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 ]Meanwhile, Gomez is just starting to look like a Major League player.I can't believe Maroth had the restraint not to bean Gomez after he styled watching a foul ball, then styled again after actually hitting a fair one.Really. If LaRussa's guys weren't such good sports they'd have won.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Ron Darling said it's OK to style like that if you've hit 28 home runs.....I wonder if he were still pitching if he would feel the same way....anyway I really thought Gomez was going to go greet the fans after he hit it...Willie had a chat with him I assume about styling.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Funny about Moises, as I was just going through the archives and found my Christmas Carol about him (to "Away in a Manger") was an ignored prayer to his uncle.Always in some danger Of breaking his head The nephew of Jesus Signed this year by Fred The stars in our lineup Sometimes wouldn't wake When lefties were pitching And Wright wouldn't rake I love the manuever Though fear for his knees That he'll fall from his treadmill Fall prey to fierce bees See, the nephew of Jesus May fit better than Cliff 'Cause he bats righthanded And tends not to whiff But he's scarce an improvement O'er Floyd's sketchy health A risky investment Of Wilpon's sweet wealth I cry to you, Jesus You once were a Met Please guide our dear Moises Our new power threat
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 btw, He'll apparently resume "baseball activities" next week in Florida.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I had forgotten about the bees. Awesome.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I was always skeptical about that "whole piss on your hands to toughen up the skin" thing. He and Posada both.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I'm wanting to find a silver lining here,Alou comes back by the end of July and finds his hot bat by the end of August and helps propel the Mets into the play-offs and glory.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 That would be nice.I have to say, I liked the 2006 team more than I do this one.I guess if the 2007 team manages to win the World Series my preference might change.I hope to find out.
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Not sure Moises could crack the roster..He does make less money than Carl Pavano....
