Managers Gone Wild...

The thing about minor league eruptions is that the only entrance to the clubhouse is often through the outfield. So, once they kicked out, they have a long exit, and usually take the time to add as much drama as possible.

Pinella's rant is part of a special subset of post-game explosions, perhaps the best of which belongs to Hal McRae:

Apparently he's a Bobby Cox disciple within the Braves system.

Wellman was obviously enraged when he first ran out to confront the home plate umpire, but by the time he wandered down to the third base bag and pulled it up he was playing to the crowd than than arguing any calls. From that point on it was no longer about the calling of balls and strikes, he was playing to the crowd and enjoying the attention.

Damn those guys are impressive. I wish Willie had some fire like that. I'd be proud to have a manager who had some fucking guts for once and got out there and yelled at people. Maybe our guys would play hard if we had a manager like one of those old-skool, hard-nosed, don't-take-no-shit-from-no-one skippers.

That guy's clearly an ass, and if I was the GM, I'd fire him before he reached the clubhouse.

this guy might need to be checked out by mental health professionals... he dropped to the ground and "snuck up" on the Rosin-bag and then grabbed and threw it...

Length of Piniella's suspension to be determined by MLB on Monday
Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella was suspended indefinitely and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball on Sunday for his latest dirt-kicking tirade against an umpire.

Piniella was ejected in the eighth inning of Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. After Angel Pagan was thrown out trying to steal third, Piniella stormed out of the dugout and kicked dirt as he argued and tossed his cap, leading to his ouster by third-base umpire Mark Wegner.

MLB also said that Piniella made contact with Wegner during the outburst.

Piniella will begin serving his suspension Sunday. The length of Piniella's suspension will be determined Monday after a meeting with John McHale Jr., the MLB executive vice president for administration.

The Cubs have lost six straight entering Sunday's series finale against the Braves.
