Had Jeter come up with a hit there it would, of course, been tallied as "just another example" of why he was a money player. The problem is that when the opposite occurs it's ignored as evidence of the contrary.

My 6yo nephew wore a bunch of Yankee pins to Dad's funeral. A fellow mourner bent over and pointed at the pins and spelled out how this pin is of the guy who does whatever it takes to win, and this one is of the guy who never hits when it counts. I told him to stop confusing a smart kid.
