Guest iramets Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 From the IGT about the "Marlon Anderson" game, etc. I wonder how many games could be fairly said to be one particular player's game. In Anderson's case, he had neither a long nor especially distinguished Met career, so we all remember, as long as we remember him, the ITP HR and the game associated with that exciting moment. I suspect if you said "The Robin Ventura game" people will understand which game you mean-- though Ventura obviously had several memorable games, that's the first one that comes to (my) mind. This works somewhat better with opposing players, but even there it could get tricky: If you say "The Roger Clemens Game" I'm sure some people will think you mean the game he beaned Piazza and others will think the game he threw the shattered bat at him. (Some people even think ithose were both one game.)So write a 4-word post: "The _________ __________ Game" and let us decide if we agree on the game you have in mind. I'll start with an easy one: "The Jimmy Qualls" game.Double points if the name you suggest is also your current posting level. Extra points for the oldest, newest, most obscure game.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Seaver's ImPerfect Game, of courseThe Ramon Castro Game
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 The Victor Diaz GameUpon edit, we had some hell of a lineup that day.CF Gerald WilliamsSS Kaz Matsui3B David Wright1B Mike PiazzaRF Richard HidalgoLF Eric ValentC Jason Phillips2B Jeff KeppingerSP Aaron HeilmanYates, Stanton, Bartolome Fortunato, Bell, Botallico, Wilson Delgado, Zeile, and one Jose Reyes made cameos, along with Craig Brazell(!) and Victor Diaz, who both homered. Who else but Ryan Dempster gave up a couple of late runs for the Cubs.
Guest iramets Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Since I was there, with KC and Vic Sage, I remember the Victor Diaz game well--vs the Cubbies --knocking them out and pissing in their beer--at the end of the '04 season. The Ramon Castro game is still on the board, if anyone wants that one.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 The Castro home run came against the Phillies, right? Late 2005?Easy one: The Edgardo Alfonzo Game.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 The one-game playoff for the Wild Card?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 seawolf17 wrote:The Castro home run came against the Phillies, right? Late 2005?Yup. Against soon-to-be teamate Billy Wagner to effectivily end the Phillies 2005 season.Someone please come up with the Daily News cover the next day featuring the headline "Blast-Ro!"I saw it once on Google (Ramon Castro Mets) but now I'm coming up empty
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 1999 NLDS Game 4The Dave Magadan Game
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I was thinking Fonzie's 6-for-6 in Houston, actually.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I was thinking the 86 clincher.1986 NLCS Game 3
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Opening Day '94.The Oliver Perez Game...
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I'm still sticking with Game 7 2006 NLCS. Yeah the pen blew it, and yeah he left with a tie ballgame, but that was one of the top postseason pitching performances we have ever had.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 For tonight I'll go with tonight. But I don't have a lot of perspective at the moment.Ditto the Endy Chavez Game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 <<<<------------- The Steve Henderson game was already mentioned in the other threadI was w/Dickshot at "The Bobby Jones Game"
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Others that come to mind:The Mike Scoiscia gameThe Eric Davis gameThe Mr. Koo gameThe Matt Franco game
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I have no problem thinking of the game where Rusty flip-flopped between left and right as the Rusty Staub Game.Does the invocation of Olerud-Schilling suggest that duos are allowed? The Rose-Harrelson Game. The Cameron-Beltran Game. The Knight-Davis Game.Does Angel Hernandez get a game, or are their too many for one to stand out?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I think of the Mike Scott game as the Game Seven that never happened.Let's try this differently. I give the date and you give the eponym. 10-1-1982.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I would call the Knight-Davis game The Brawl Game. The Benny Agbayani game. The Dave Mlicki game.

Sorry.I remember the DIck Rusteck game. My little brother got go to that one, and stayed home and listened to the radio. Is the benny agbayana game the opener in Japan, or the brainfreeze live-baseball giveaway one?The Bill Buckner game, of course. The Todd Pratt game. The Jim Bunning game. The Jimmy Piersall game. The Steve Finley game.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Which one is the the Steve Finley game? Note that Steve also played a fairly significant role in both the Todd Pratt game and the Marlon Anderson game.I was thinking that the Agbayani game was the 13th inning homer off Aaron Fultz in 2000 NLDS Game 3.

The same one as the Todd Pratt game, is what i was thinking. The looking-in-the-glove one, and we all go nuts
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 I'd also call the one-game playoff in 1999 the "Al Leiter Game"To me, the "Edgardo Alfonzo Game" would be this one:http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=6067
