Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Remember, they want to make the story set present-day. The existence of Ultimate Nick Fury allowed for him to appear in this film. The Ultimate version of Fury is a Gulf War vet. The fact that he was specifically designed to look like Jackson and that Jackson will portray him on-screen is unbelievably cool, in my opinion. Here's a picture of Ultimate Nick Fury:
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I don't know much of anything about the Ultimates, but I think it's strange and annoying that Marvel has two versions of all of their characters.Twice as much potential merchandise to sell, I guess.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 X-Men 3 was on HBO the other day and I TiVoed it. Just this afternoon I burned it to DVD for my son and, to verify that the whole movie made it onto the disk, I skipped ahead to the very end. After the credits finish rolling, there's one additional scene. It's very brief, but it's a man in a hospital bed and Moira McTaggert is in the room. She's reading a chart or something, and the man in the bed croaks, "Moira?" And she turns to him and says, "Charles?"And THAT'S the end of the movie. All this time I thought that they had killed off Professor X.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 George Miller to lead 'Justice League'WB moves ahead with bigscreen adaptationBy DIANE GARRETT / VarietyWarner Bros. is moving aggressively ahead with the bigscreen adaptation of DC Comics Justice League of America, with George Miller on board to direct.Project, which is the initial phases of casting, is a pre-strike priority for the studio, which needs a superhero tentpole in 2009. Still, making all the pieces fit has been complicated by overlapping superhero projects in the pipeline, since Justice League features a pantheon of superheroes, including Superman and Batman.Batman and Superman are active properties for the studio, though the next installment in the Superman franchise has taken a backseat to Justice League in part because Warners is so keen on the Justice League script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.Justice League will likely feature the characters of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman.Warners is in the preliminary phases of casting for Justice League. Several sources close to the project said that Christian Bale, star of the revived Batman film franchise, and Brandon Routh, star of Bryan Singers Superman Returns, would probably not appear in the movie. However, helmer Chris Nolan, current steward of the Batman franchise for the studio, would prefer that Warners delay Justice League until after he finishes Batman projects in development; Bale has also let his uneasiness about Justice League be known. To work around these issues, the studio explored making Justice League as an animated film or with motion capture, but all indications are that the film will be special-effects driven live action. The project is so complicated -- and casting dependent -- that even those deeply involved in the project are holding their breath until production begins. Theyre working very hard to get it to happen, said one party close to the project. But there are so many characters its complicated. It was for this very reason that many believed Warners would move ahead first with a follow-up to Bryan Singers Superman Returns. Singer, however, is busy with Tom Cruise starrer Valkyrie. Miller has a warm relationship with Warners. He last helmed Happy Feet, which generated $379 million worldwide box office for the studio.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) Not such a good idea. The notion behind superhero team-ups in the comics wasn't to create a new great-selling title, but to use the better-selling characters --- Batman and Superman --- to draw readership toward the lesser-sellers.Teams conceived as teams --- the X-Men and the Fantastic Four --- always made more compelling reading than dream teams like the Avengers and the Justice League, where getting all those guys in one room under any but the most dire universe-threatening circumstances would be a monumental waste of resources. Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 what makes this any more complicated or difficult than the X-men movies or Fantastic Four?the fact that 2 of the JLA, superman and batman, are currently featured in their own series of films. they probably need to coordinate productions and storylines (and possibly casts) so they don't conflict with each other.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Of course. And Wonder Woman is still in the pipeline, presumably. Do you want to introduce her as part of the team, or in her own feature? Would it detract from her own feature or add to it? Can they stick a contemporary WW in the Justice League and World War II WW in her own serial and not confuse audiences too much.Does Batman as conceived in Batman Begins exist in a universe without superpowers and Superman? This is key shit.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 Marvel is also planning to start tying their movies together. Avengers is in the works, but expected to follow Iron Man and Thor and, I think, Captain America.I think it's an okay idea. Part of the fun of the Marvel Universe is how it all overlaps. Movie audiences need to be eased into that, however. Launching them into a full-blown Marvel Universe would require too much suspension of disbelief. (Imagine working all those different origins into one film.)DC has the advantage that their heroes are more familiar. They may be able to get away with introducing Flash and Green Lantern and Aquaman without going into their origins. (Much of the audience already knows who they are.) But seeing a bunch of guys in outlandish costumes sitting around a conference room table waiting for evil to strike will look nutty no matter what. Such a movie would probably be better as a high-end computer animated feature. (Easier to suspend the disbelief.)And I agree with what Edgy said above about superteams like X-Men, FF, and Doom Patrol compared with conglomerate teams like Justice League, Avengers, and Defenders. And one more thing: I want an Invaders movie!

With all the pumped up guys out there, I don't know why they don't take the TV show's notion of shooting a bodybuilder and using trick photography to make him look bigger, except doing it much much better.Hulk shouldn't grow to nine feet. Seven to eight feet is fine. It's hard to imagine him going beyond a seven-and-a-half-footer and still keeping his pants.
