of all the Mets, in Met togs or out of them.

Don Aase:

Here we have Don in black and white, which captures his scupted face with his usual shag and 'stache (though clipped closer than usual) adding to his image as a swinger of his era. His Boston doubleknit pullover (closely resembling the Angel variety he spent the bulk of his career in) adds to the ensemble of a randy man of the day, and his hat loosely balanced atop his head lends a beaver-shooting f.u. to the whole thing. No way he's going out after the game with hathead.

Show me Kurt Abbott.

Bah.

What makes this Abbott card inneresting isn't setting his first name in noirish courier and his last name as a Brother P-Touch Labeler label. Nor is it the teal everywhere.

It's that it's his debut, which lends contest to his left hip flying open there. You'd expect a lefty to be that open a moment after his swing, as he has to turn and head to first. A righty should be diving toward the baseline, but the still-wet-behind-the-ears Abbott has either flown open with a bailout in the midst of his swing, or (my suspicion) is opened up looking for where the result of his first big league contact has gone before really getting out of the box.

Juan Acevedo. And if the most inneresting photo is the only one, so be it.

Okay, I'll bite.

Juan Acevedo. What I like about this photo is that he's in a Yankee uniform and he's in that classic "I just screwed up" posture.

The photo was allegedly taken during an interleague game against the Chicago Cubs. I'm curious though about that patch on the right side of his cap. I thought they were only used during World Series games, but the last time the Yankees and Cubs met in October was quite a while ago.

I'll add some critique.

What makes that photo inneresting is that his head is freakishly huge, his name is on his hat, he's batting without a helmet, and, um, did you see how freakishly huge his head is? Those must be some beans!

Tommie Agee is summoned.

I saw KC's but this was too good to pass up

Benny Agbayani of the New York Mets gave a kiss to Ada the pig, held by Josette Hesselein, at the Ala Moana Center Stage yesterday. Agbayani won the dubious privilege after being the local sports celebrity to raise the most money for the American Diabetes Association of Hawai'i. Insulin used to treat the disease first came from pig glands.

Tommie Agee is next. Sure, I could post a photo of the WS catch, but why not this one instead:

Topps went through a weird period in the early 70s where they put the subject off their cards off-center. Is this a Tommie Agee card? Or a whoever-that-shortstop-is card? Or That Umpire's Butt card? We'll never know.

Rick Aguilera would be next.

Rick Aguilera was demoted to concessions guy while playing for the Twins.

OK, maybe not. But the resemblence is uncanny.

Jack Aker next.

What adds to the interest of that Topps card (and his world series catch really is the most interesting photo but I applaud the thinking outside the box) is that Tommie is recently exiled from Shea, but they caught him at Shea anyhow. that's the secondbaseman, I think, not the shortstop, unless Tommie is in left.

There's a 60 per cent chance that Tommie was in left field in that photo.

He played five games at Shea as an Astro:

http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=1869

In three of the five he was the left fielder. However, the only games he started were the last two, in which he played center field.

I wonder if it would be possible to narrow it down to a particular game. I guess we could rule out any games in which Agee didn't have a putout.

Well, we don't know that Agee caught that ball.

I guess we could rule out any games in which Agee didnt have a putout or an error.

And games where Eric Gregg was umping second.

I have that Agee card, and I think it is one of those Topps specials, in which they try to fake us into believing he's in an Astro uniform when he's really not. The red on the hats and socks were colored in. Yes, folks, I believe that came from his time as a Met. That could be Buddy at short, right?

It makes sense, too, b/c that card is from the 1973 set, and Agee played all of 1972 as a Met I believe.

Thats not the World Series patch, that is the Yankees 100th Anniversary patch that adorned all Yankee jerseys and caps that season of 2003

That could be. I have that card somewhere too. If the card has a high number on the back, then it could have been taken during the 1973 season. But you're right, it's probably a shot of him as a Met with the caps and socks painted. I wasn't aware that Topps did that with action shots. We've certainly seen many examples of head shots with painted caps, and sometimes rather poorly done.

Anyway, back to Manny Alexander. Not many to choose from, but how about this melodramatic response to being called out at second base in a game against Washington?

Pinch-runner Manny Alexander reacts to an out call as the Nationals get the lead runner on a bunt.

Alfonzo's sudden success and subsequent injuries had many suspecting steroid use. Note how in this photo his head seems huge:

This photo of Neil Allen is notable because, well, pick 'em. His skin is scary, his lips are gone, his eyes are sunken and ---while his neck still betrays the muscularity of the professional athlete he once was --- his torso is lost in a completely mis-sized uniform top. Hey Yankees, how about getting a professional photographer and equipment manager for your top affiliate? (I've have the same problem with Tides photos).

I guess, in retrospect, while he always had the solid athletic physique of an everyday player, good teeth and a swinging head of hair, Neil had skin issues back in the day and probably should have discovered sun screen before Topps discovered him for this White Sox photo:

Nonetheless, that Clippers photo suggests he's been through a car wreck at one point.

Jermaine Allensworth?

iubitul's excellent photo recalls the short-lived Metly career of Edwin Almonte, and the smattering of fans who bothered to turn out for a late-season weekday gay dame in 2003.

Note Almonte is wearing a 9-11 service hat and not a Met cap:
