Ok - I must have experienced a transporter malfunction, and Soup is wearing a goatee

Favorite average to below average Met:

Butch Huskey

a guy that I don't think that Steve Phillips liked very much but, after seeing the likes of Victor Diaz, Xavier Nady, Shawn Green and some of the others playing in RF...Butch wouldn't be a bad option in recent years in RF, at least as the RH part of a platoon...

Butch's career splits vs lefties:
.301 BAA; .362 OBP; .487 slugging percentage; .849 OPS;

http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=huskebu01

his '97 wasn't bad at all:
24 HRs; 26 doubles; 2 triples; 8 steals; 81 RBI; .287 BAA; .502 slugging %

Everybody's favorite - Rod Kanehl.
And, coming out of the bullpen and into the rotation, Terry Leach.

So many underachievers, so little time...

I'm thankful to have seen Bruce Bosclair, Alex Trevino (just to hear Murph say his name), the aforementioned Huskey and Leach, John Pacella.

The list could go on and on.

Todd Pratt. That HR against the D-Backs remains a very good memory.

="SteveJRogers"]Actually...

I remember the picture, and the goatee Soup was wearing during the playoffs...

Sheesh, try a little sarcasm...

Mickey Weston

I was able to write a number of stories about him during his career, and was thrilled when he came to the Mets. He provided my first trip inside a Mets clubhouse.

Mickey is a super-nice guy and very patient with a star-struck young reporter. In the offseason, he went on mission trips around the world with other players, conducting clinics and offering testimony.

Zvon, from a CPF Parody Contest a few years ago. I went down in flames in a close match against Edgy.

Flynns In the Line Up (Cats In The Cradle)

Doug Flynn arrived just the other day
He came to the Mets from Cincinnati way.
He fields alright, he'll learn to hit they say
We'll put him at second, he'll be okay.
And the fans were all yelling at the top of their lungs
"I know I could out hit Doug Flynn, man.
You know I could out hit Doug Flynn."

And Doug Flynn's in the line up and the Mets can't win
You know the way he hits should be a sin
Why did we trade for this no talent hack?
We want our Tom Seaver back,
You know we want Tom Seaver back.

Flynn went 0 for 4 the other day
"Can't you teach him to hit? Let someone else play?"
Torre says, "Doug played hard. He had a tough day.
He's just in a slump, but he will be okay."
And as Torre walked away, he mumbled low
Said, "Zimmer could out hit Flynn, yeah
I know Zimmer could out hit Flynn."

And Doug Flynn's in the line up and the Mets can't win
You know the way he hits should be a sin
Why did we trade for this no talent hack?
We want our Tom Seaver back,
You know we want Tom Seaver back.

Well, the years passed by, Flynn continued to play
So painful to watch, I just couldn't pay
For a seat to watch him start and the Mets not win.
Couldn't get worse if Joe put Backman in.
What I'd really like, Joe, is to see someone else play.
Sit Flynn down, start someone else today.

And Doug Flynn's in the line up and the Mets can't win
You know the way he hits should be a sin
Why did we trade for this no talent hack?
We want our Tom Seaver back,
You know we want Tom Seaver back.

The Mets are still bad, Flynn's been traded away.
I hope the Expos will let him play.
I hope to see him start when he comes to Shea.
Because he still has no clue when he swings away.
And now the Mets use Backman, Bailor, Veryzer, or Giles
Well, at least they're not Doug Flynn, yeah
Well, at least they're not Doug Flynn.

And as I rode the train home it occurred to me
Flynn hits just like me, you know, Flynn hits just like me.

Flynn's not in the line up and the Mets still can't win
He never learned to hit, which did him in.
I'm glad we traded that no talent hack
We want our Tom Seaver back,
You know we got Tom Seaver back!

Edgy used vtmets's favorite, Butch Huskey, to knock Doug Flynn and I out of the contest.

Zvon - "IMO you wuz robbed."

Not so fast. Edgy did a fine parody of Raspberry Beret from Prince. I'll see if I can dig it up from the archives for you.

Upon edit: Here's the original thread restored and archived from the EZBoard days. The responses are from old timers that are still here now, only their names (like mine) have changed.

i can't believe nobody has yet mentioned the all-time mediocrity for whom this forum is named... ladies and gentlemen, ED KRANEPOOL! ...or "Cesspool" as he was more commonly known in my house.

Only a franchise like the Mets could've kept this guy around for as long as we did. A good-field, no-hit 1bman, he became a good PHer late in his career and established many Met offensive records, simply thru longevity.
