Shawn Green

A few years ago, Green hurt his throwing shoulder. So he played a few years at first base until it healed. Then he was moved back to the outfield.
I can't imagine why.
He plays fly balls like they'll explode on contact.
He must be a goshawful first baseman.

Could Green be hurt? He's looked particularly bad going after the balls these last few days -- worse than in the DS, worse than at Shea, worse than I've seen him since he came to the Mets in late August.

Green is simply much slower than Endy & Beltran. We've become accostomed to those two running all the way across the outfield with plenty of time to catch the ball.

Shawn just ain't got the wheels they do.

Green';s definitely revealed himself to be an awful fielder, but there's not much we can do about that now and overall I've been pleased with his ABs in the whole postseason

I'm more comfortable with him out there than Milledge or the exploding-legged Clifford Floyd.

However, I think I'd rather see him in left, with Chavez covering right.

He hasn't played left since 1997, but still.

Gumby may be infuriating me in postseason with his glove, but whenever I get too angry with him I stop and remind myself that nobody infuriated me more in right field than Victor Diaz.

i watched the game last night with a yankee fan (good friend of mine and a real fan not some yankee bandwagoner) who had money on the mets to win the series, he thought Randolph should have pinch hit for Green in the 8th, i told him he was nuts and that not only should randolph not do that but it wont even be discussed by the talk radio lunatics because its so far out there, thoughts?

I hate to say it, but I think your Yankee friend might have been right. Castro, for example, crushes lefties, and Flores sucks against righties.

Franco would have been fine too, although I'd have prefered Castro, I think.

Now, Greenie's been swinging the bat pretty well, so I don't think it's a no-brainer, but I probably would have pinch hit for him . . .

It's not cut-n-dried either way. One could make arguments for both sides.

FYI - I have a friend who is a member of the media (works at NY1) and he gets to be on the field and in the clubhouse before and after games. Last night I saw him at the game and just happened to ask him what kind of guy Green is.

According to my bud Green is a very nice, very down to earth kind of guy.

My point isn't really that it's a demonstable downgrade, but rather that it burns the bench by having two guys replace one for an edge that is uncertain, and, should the game continue tied, leaves you with Woody in there instead of Green in subquent passes through the lineup.
