Bob says:

Cliff is ON (Floyd, not Jimmy)

Also Andy Handy in -- R^3 (Roger Royce Ring) out

No other changes -- bad news for those Williams over Perez fans

If that means that Cliff is healthy, then that's good news. If he blows out his heel in Game 1, and we don't have Milledge or even Ledee, then we're screwed, because Anderson Hernandez adds very little. I guess he makes Woodward an outfielder, which is something.

The only way we get Milledge on is if we disable Floyd, tho, meaning that in the event he gets better he's lost for the WS. Yes?

Lotta threads on this topic already, Mon.

Good point. Cliff last played on October 7. If you put him on the 15-day, he couldn't come off until October 22, which is Game 2.

Not that they'd do this, but could they then add him to the World Series roster but not have him available in Game 1? I'd guess not, but I'm not sure.

Cliff has a (steel) pulse!

Can we expect to see Cliff play LF in this series, maybe a game or two then he'll be the DH when we get to the WS.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the 15-day disabled list is irrelevant for the posteason, no?

As in, it doesn't matter if we leave Floyd off the roster, he'd just be left off, not disabled.

I believe that is right, the DL has no purpose after the season ends.

It would matters in this case since Milledge was recalled following the Sept. 1 cutoff date, or something, meaning he could only replace a disabled player.

See, I thought anybody who appeared before September 1 was eligible (including Milledge). Else, why argue over the 25-man roster. It is what it was on August 31st, minus any subsequently injured players, plus any players on the DL at that time.

That's what I always thought too. But from what I've been hearing lately that's not the case. Milledge and Ledee can't be on a postseason roster unless it's to replace an injured position player, and that's because they weren't on the 25-man as of August 31.

Maybe the DL doesn't factor in. Maybe they can just say that Cliff is currently injured, and replace him with Milledge. And maybe when the World Series starts, the Mets would be able to say, "Cliff is all better now" and put him back on the roster.

Obviously, it's a "mute" point (as some would spell it) since Cliff's gonna be our guy through the NLCS. And if he can't make it for the World Series (and the Mets do) there's no subsequent series to worry about.

Pretty funny. I may be the only one who gets this, but I wanted to let you know I appreciate it.

Nonsense. Clifford 'Moonie' Pusey is a longtime reader.

Watchoo talkin' bout Willis?!

El Duque on rebound?

Without getting ahead of themselves, the Mets were pleased to see Orlando Hernandez throw in the bullpen yesterday after sitting out the Division Series because of a torn calf muscle.

El Duque figured to be lost for the rest of the postseason after he was scratched from his Game 1 start, but he was walking much better yesterday and his mood had brightened considerably from a week earlier.

The best-case scenario is that Hernandez can return in time for the World Series, which begins Oct. 21, but that still seems to be a long shot.

"Not for this series," general manager Omar Minaya said, "but maybe for the next one."

That would be nice.

Of course, there's a significant task ahead of us before we think too much about the World Series.

Right, but not in the case of Floyd being left off the roster, put on the "15 day DL" and being unable to play until WS game 2. That wouldn't matter, because there wouldn't be a 15-day requirement, etc.

one solution i wouldnt mind is that in late-game pinch hitting situations, floyd bats, hernandez runs, then plays second, sending valentin out to left. i am not scared of valentin in left, that dude is a professional, plus i think i saw him out there on his winter league team.

He played the outfield earlier this season when both Beltran and Floyd were out.

think the idea is that with AH on the roster Woody can play the outfield or infield, if need be.

Word from Willie via Metsblog is that Cliff and Green are in the starting lineup tonight.
