Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I think I do this every year.Who are you ROOTING for? The Twins or the Athletics?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins. > Least intimidating nickname. > Goofiest stadium. > Survived a contraction contract hit.> Living off of MLB welfare. Not that the A's aren't all that with their austerity budget also, but I've got to pick one. Welfare mothers make better lovers.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins for me, too.Surviving contraction is part of the reason. Better chance to beat the Yankees is another. The one thing in Oakland's favor is that they play on grass and under the sky. It's possible that this series may be the last time I root against Barry Zito for many years.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins. Have in-law relatives in Minnesota - I've always kind of liked them. The A's have never done it for me.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I'll be happy with either outcome. It'd be nice for Oakland to win a series if only to shut up the Moneyball Bashers. Plus it gives Jay Payton some natty TV time. The Twins are prolly more likeable, and have the better collection of talent, so would be a better MFY opponent.OTOH, I'm heavy for Detroit (far far FAR superior starting picthing) to win in that series so it all moot.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Oakland. They've been my AL team since 2001.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 The Twinkies are my favorite AL team.Young talent, scrappy GM, the best pitcher in baseball . . . Even their owner, Carl "Beelzebub" Pohlad has brought me enjoyment this season with his, "I want to stick it to the Yankees" comment. Go Twins!
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins. I'm still bitter about '73. Plus, when thinking of the A's I always picture roided up Canseco, McGuire.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 It depends. If the Mets don't advance, and the MFY's do, I want the Twins to win because they have a better shot of knocking them off.But if the MFY's don't advance, and the Mets do advance, I want them to lose because I want no part of them in the World Series. The tough part is if the MFY's and Mets both advance, then I don't know.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Tough choice. I like what both of these teams have done that past few seasons on a limited budget and would like to see each of them have some postseason success. I guess I'll go with the A's since they haven't made it past the first round for many years.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I'm not sure the Twins have a better chance of beating the Yankees in a 7-game series than the A's do. The A's staff is deeper, Santana notwithstanding. But I like both teams.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Scutaro doubles in JayPay. Ex-Mets getting it done.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins because I think they have the best chance of knocking off the MFYs.
Guest vtmet Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins but watching today's game, both teams look like a joke...Zito can't throw strikes, but the Twins are getting themselves out swinging at pitches out of the strikezone and hitting 2-1 counts off the end of the bat when he throws his fluff in the strikezone...And I'm not impressed by the A's offense either...
Guest vtmet Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I don't think that the A's are that good, but after seeing the Twins being totally overmatched today (in spite of the fact that they had the much better pitcher pitching today)...it's probably going to be a very short series in favor of the A's...
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins. If it ain't gonna be the Metsies, I want Joe Nathan to bring the trophy to Stony Brook this winter when he visits.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I have always liked the Twins. Maybe, it's because I lived in Minnesota for 4 years as a youth. Maybe it's because my first ever MLB game was as a 12 year old when I went to the old Municipal Stadium to see the Twins play the Rangers. Maybe it is because I love to see a small market team that has been able to successfully put competitive teams on the field for much of the past 20 years. I think it's actually a combination of those three things.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I FUCKING LOVE IT WHEN ELSTER IS HERE..sorry for the caps..
