Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Basically impossible for that particular scenario to happen. It could only theoretically happen in the Division series, and Philly will be playing on the West Coast for games 1 and 2 -- therefore less likely to conflict with a Mets game.Plus, the way the schedule is set currently, there aren't any overlap games at this time.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 What if:I know this scenario is not probable, but it is possible -San Diego holds on to win the West and Los Angeles wins the WC (basically how the standings are today). Houston and St. Louis battle for the NL Central and neither have a better record than SD or LA.Houston finishes a half game back on the Cards at the end of play Sunday. St. Louis has a makeup game against San Fran scheduled for Monday if necessary, which under this scenario it would be. St. Louis loses the game.Houston and St. Louis would have to have a one-game playoff for the division.Would that game-off happen on Tuesday even though the non-wildcard NLDS series is scheduled to begin that day? Would they flip-flop the 2 NLDS series schedules? I've checked MLB.com and it looks like they don't have a plan for this.If I were in charge, I would say day-night 3 team double header on Monday, but that would never happen.Interesting.

Both games will be on television at the same time. The game not on FOX in your market will air on FX or FSN.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Yanks, by virtue of their win and Detroit and Minny losing tonight I believe have wrapped up home field throughout the postseason (including of course the WS)Going to be VEEEEARYYY INTAHRESTING with the DSs and LCSs essentially starting (and quite possibly ending) in the same city. Going to be alot of media and fan frenzy.I'd say the only more crazier thing in sports that I can think of is the Giants and Jets having a home postseason game the same day. Though I'm sure the NFL would be able to manuver that right up untill the Championship Game weekend, and even then they could persuade one of the teams to move the game to Saturday.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I'm not sure the Yankees have clinched home-field advantage yet. The Yankees hold the tiebreaker over the Tigers, but the season series between the Twins and the Yankees was tied 3-3.The Yankees are up 2 games, but with 2 games to play the Twins or Tigers could tie them in record. In the event that the Twins and the Yankees finish with the same record, I'm not sure what the tiebreaker is, as the season series was a tie.In the event that the Twins, Yankees and Tigers all finish with the same record, Minnesota would be the Wild Card, as the tie for division leader is broken first (and the Tigers hold that tiebreaker over the Twins). In that case, the Yankees would have home-field advantage.Potential dates for two playoff games in NY:Tue Oct 3 - NLDS 1 / ALDS 1Wed Oct 3 - NLDS 1/ ALDS 2Wed Oct 11 - NLCS 1 / ALCS 2Wed Oct 18 - NLCS 6 / ALCS 7For these dates, only for the last one would the National League game be definitively forced to happen in the afternoon. For all the others it remains "up in the air."

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Disclaimer: EARLY projectionTuesday4 PM ? - Oakland at Detroit, ESPN8 PM - Minnesota at New York, FOXTime TBD - 10 PM? - St. Louis at San Diego, ESPNFox is already advertising that ALDS Game 1 at Yankee Stadium will be the primetime game...Wednesday1 PM ? - Minnesota at New York, FOX (?)4 PM - Oakland at Detroit, ESPN7 PM - Los Angeles at New York, ESPN...but the Wednesday schedule seems to be a problem. None of these games can be played at 10 PM, and "probably" not at 1 PM, either.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 LOL - George will have fits over not being in prime time, as he feels is his G-d given right.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 I just edited, see above. Not sure what they're going to do.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Well, that's a very different lineup.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Right. I still can't figure out what they're intending to do. I think the most recent edit is the most likely, although I'll keep udating this as info. becomes available.I started by using the tenative TV schedule that was put out, but I think that will clearly change.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Assuming that the NL Wildcard comes out of the West, how set are we on the Mets Game 1 guesstimate?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 I'd put it at 70%.I believe I've seen it reported elsewhere that the Mets v. West Coast would get the primetime slot on Wednesday, even if it pushes the Yankees to the afternoon.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 OK - thanks. It's the difference between whether MK gets any school in on Wednesday or not (or, I guess, potentially Thursday also....)
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Thursday shoud be less of a problem, as there are no AL games on Thursday.Thursday would probably be:4 PM or 10 PM St. Louis at San Diego7 PM Los Angeles at New York
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 We only have tickets to Game 1. I was thinking in terms of what time we'd get back to Central NJ after Game 1. With a 4:00 start he'd get to bed at a reasonable time - with a prime time start, he might not be in shape for school on Thursday.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Y'all don't suppose that a Tuesday play-in game - which would involve at least one of the teams normally sked to play their Game 1 that day - would make our series move up a day?I wouldn't think so.
