soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Does anybody know where I can find this or does it even exist yet? Thanks.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The postseason will open on Tuesday, October 3. (It always opens on the Tuesday following the end of the season.) Again, if the past is a guide, some teams will play their first games on Wednesday of that week.Beyond that, specifics won't be announced until at least some of the matchups are known. They need to get an idea of which games will be played in which time zones before they can firm up the schedule.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Thanks.<--------------- And as a bonus to me I'm Willieeee Montan-YES.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Didya happen to see that note today on mbtn? A guy was trying to determine whether the Mets placed a tilde over the N in MONTANEZ on his nameplate: I sincerely doubt this was the case but couldn't say for sure. Can someone find a photo to confirm (It'd have to be from the beginning of 79 season until he was traded that July; the Mets didn't wear nameplate pre-79.)
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 I don't remember a tilde on the uniform but I distinctly remember the P.A. guy pronouncing it 'Montan-YES'
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I kinda remember him having one, if you mean on his uniform. Or maybe that was with the Phillies
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I don't think he did. If he did, he didn't bother including one in his signature:Nor did Topps give him one:I agree with Coo', however, that Phillie was more likely to apply one, as they were ahead of the curve on Latin American scouting.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Yeah, I'd be surprised if there was a tilde. Being that '79 was the first year they did names how good could they have been with the nuances?I'll check my yearbooks when I get home tonight and see if there's anything there.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 His family name properly spelled included the tilde, certainly. The question is whether the Mets included one on his jersey nameplate.I recall one for sure on Alex Trevino -- he may have been the first.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Looks like the Dodgers are ahead of Topps here:

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 They're really planning on playing 5 NLCS games on consecutive days?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 In a five game series you only need to win two and not three?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I'm not busting balls, but on further review I notice that the days of the week are not consecutive even though the dates are so the last two NLCS are probably:Game 6 Wednesday, October 18, if necessaryGame 7 Thursday, October 19, if necessary
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Yes, you've all picked up on the typos. The last 2 games of the NLDS, not 3 are "if necessary."There's a typo for the NLCS, there's a travel day between Gms. 5 and 6.Trying this again:NLDSSeries 1Game 1 Tuesday, October 3Game 2 Thursday, October 5Game 3 Saturday October 7Game 4 Sunday, October 8, if necessaryGame 5 Monday, October 9, if necessarySeries 2Game 1 Wednesday, October 4Game 2 Thursday, October 5Game 3 Saturday October 7Game 4 Sunday, October 8, if necessaryGame 5 Monday, October 9, if necessaryNLCSGame 1 Wednesday, October 11Game 2 Thursday, October 12Game 3 Saturday, October 14Game 4 Sunday, October 15Game 5 Monday, October 16, if necessaryGame 6 Wednesday, October 18, if necessaryGame 7 Thursday, October 19, if necessaryWorld SeriesGame 1 Saturday October 21Game 2 Sunday October 22Game 3 Tuesday, October 24Game 4 Wednesday, October 25Game 5 Thursday, October 26, if necessaryGame 6 Saturday, October 28, if necessaryGame 7 Sunday, October 29, if necessary
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Thanks. Like I said, not trying to be a pest, just trying to clarify.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Solved:http://mbtn.net
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 After a certain point, the Mets additionally added an on the jersey of Rey Ordez, probably a unique character in the history of Met uniforms.I have no handy evidence, though.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Where did you get those schedules, Gwreck?I'm curious to see the AL game dates. It will help me figure out when NLDS and NLCS game will potentially be played during the day, and I can then figure out how many vacation days I may have to use to watch Mets postseason games.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Pulled 'em from the Dodgers website.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 question; when are the mets most likely to be playing in New York assuming (as looks pretty damn likely) that they have the best record in the league?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Games 1, 2, and 5 of the NLDS.Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 of the NLCS.And games 3, 4, and 5 of the World Series.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Adam Rubin in this morning's Daily News offers a little more insight into how the postseason schedule will be determined:]The Mets would open the NLDS on Oct. 3 if they face another division winner, and Oct. 4 if they're facing the wild-card team.So if the Padres hold on and win the card, the Mets start on Wednesday. I suspect that would mean that Game 2 would be a day game on Thursday, October 5. You might want to make tentative plans for a day off on that day.I've already arranged for a flexible schedule for October. (I have an understanding boss.) I should be able to avoid being at work while any Mets playoff games are underway. Whenever the games are being played, I'll be where I belong, in front of my television.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I'll be in Hawaii during most of the NLCS. I didn't schedule this... it's a buddy's wedding... and I can't really skip it just because of the playoffs. I'm really torn though. At least I will be if the Mets happen to be in it. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.I'm sure I'll have a great time, but part of my brain is going to be back home, soaked in beer, floating above the couch without me.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 ]So if the Padres hold on and win the card, the Mets start on Wednesday. I suspect that would mean that Game 2 would be a day game on Thursday, October 5. You might want to make tentative plans for a day off on that day.I don't believe so. I think you'll get a 4:00 start for game 1 and primetime for game 2. I believe both AL series are Tue/Wed, so, since the Yankees just HAVE to be on prime time, they'll get the Wed 8 PM slot, the Mets the 4PM slot, and I guess the Tigers the 1PM start. On Thurs, I think the Mets will get the prime time slot, and the other NL series will be during the day.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Have you seen the ALDS schedule anywhere? I looked around but couldn't find it.It would be helpful (maybe) to know how many games, and which ones, are scheduled on each day.
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I'm just hoping that ESPN is kinda enough to broadcast the Mets games in my area.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.Given the time zone difference, some of the games might be starting in the morning Hawaii time, though I guess most of them will be mid afternoon. I'd be torn, too. You don't want to be in Hawaii and spend your afternoons indoors.Hey! I just figured it out!Buy a cheap VCR while you're there, or pack one with you. Tape the games in the afternoon, avoid sports updates while you're enjoying Hawaii, and then watch before you go to bed at night. You might have to call ahead to your hotel to confirm that their TV's have the proper jacks in the back! It's the kind of thing only a crazy sports fan would do.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Believe me, I'm considering all options. My wife is incredibly understanding about baseball season -- especially Mets Playoffs Baseball Season -- but I fear if I get caught watching baseball on this vacation she'll freak.Taping the games and watching them after she goes to sleep might be an acceptable compromise, although I'm not sure the house we're staying in has a TV.This could get ugly.
