Those numbers . . . they're just crazy. I mean, how much are Field Box seats going for? Or are they not available for shlubs like us? And how can they charge the same for Upper Reserved as they do for Mezzanine Reserved?

Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to try and gets tickets for everything I can and damn the credit card, but that's just sheer insanity.

Shouldn't they at least TRY to have a couple affordable seats for your average Mets family?

Not as long as you stick to your previous sentence.

Ticket prices for post-season - at least the final two rounds - are pretty much set by MLB, with only minor variations allowed for differeing stadiums and levels and what not.

And, of course, they'll be sold out in short order so, from a supply & demand standpoint, they could actually charge more and get away with it.

For me, one of the best things about being at Shea on October 25, 1986 is that by the time I got to the parking lot I realized that I had just experienced the zenith of my career as a fan.

Since then there were other games that I wanted to go to, but none that I felt I had to attend. If not for that, I might very well be planning on participating in the mad overpriced ticket scramble that's soon to begin.

But I can watch contentedly from home, knowing I'm unlikely to miss seeing anything better than I've already seen.

Yeah, but this'll be the first time that I'm in NYC for the post-season! I mean, I HAVE to go! Fortunately, my Dad & I are guaranteed 2 tickets for one game per each series, but I was thinking I'd try and watch a few extra games, and my fiance's going to be pissed if she doesn't get to go to a game or two and I do (which, in and of itself, is pretty fucking awesome. She was exasperated by baseball when we started dating).

Anyway, your point, pretty clearly, stands. I'm just grateful I don't have kids for whom I have to buy tickets.

Ah, did not know that. Thanks!

Well, with any luck, I'll be saying the same thing in August 2007.

I don't know how much the Field Boxes will be, but I'm guessing that unless you have a full-season or weekday plan account for those seats that they'll be near-impossible to obtain.

The info was taken directly from the letter I got with my postseason invoice (we have the Tuesday/Friday and Sunday plans).

I think the Division Series ticket prices are set by MLB too. If I recall correctly, net reciepts from DS games 1-3, LCS games 1-4 and World Series games 1-4 go directly to the players pool, which is the pot from which playoff shares come from.

It's tough for me to complain about prices. Playoff tickets for your favorite team for a fan like me are the type of thing that it's near-impossible to put a price on. Further, I don't think that they're that far out of the realm of affordability-- if you're willing to make a sacrifice. It means less concerts, movies, going out to eat, driving a less fancy car, whatever -- but for the playoffs, spending a greater part of the entertainment budget in one spot doesn't seem so bad. I paid my invoice immediately.

If I had a season ticket plan I'd pay the inflated ticket prices, too. (I had a Sunday plan from 1986 through 1993. That's how I was able to get to postseason games in 1986 and 1988.)

I'm just not interested in participating in the scramble for the remaining tickets. Especially since they're probably deep under an overhang.

My '88 playoff seats were up and under in Mezz.
Worst seats at Shea. WORST!
I would have rather sat at the stadiums upper rim.

In '73 I slept over outside Shea and got a brick of 3 Mezz Box seats for $21.
Those were great seats, out in left.

(I snuck out on the field that night too, with many others. We had a touch football game in centerfield by moonlight. Unfortunately, eventually a BIG squad of police showed up and everyone scrambled. There were afew arrests, but remakably few considering how many people were out there that night.)

I think my father still has the ticket stub from the Game 4 1969 WS game he took me to.
I think it was $10 (or maybe less) for Mezz Reserved.

I don't think these prices are all that out of whack ... try doing something
else in NY of similar importance in seats as good and you'll find the market
is expensive.

Willet, who are you quoting?

FK, I hat you ... a lot.

They were indeed $50. I went to game 4.

Anyone have any tips on ticket-buying strategy? I'm thinking I'll try and get tickets to Game 4 of the WS, since it's guaranteed to happen, then tickets to the final games of the first two series. I'll be off the hook moneywise if they do really well or really poorly, but if they turn out to be close series, I'll be there for the final game.

And is Shea the best place to queue or would midtown or whatever be better?

Are tickets going to be sold on the phone and the Internet?

The web would be easiest, as long as the server doesn't overload as soon as they open the gates. (Which is a distinct possibility.)

Anyone remember how it went back in 1999 and 2000? I didn't even try to get tickets either year, so I don't really know for sure. I seem to remember website problems, though.

I bought mine on the phone the morning they went on sale... I remember sitting at my desk. And we wound up in Section 46 of the upper reserved, Row V. You could not get any farther from home plate than we were, unless you were in Section 48.
