Bradford made Rowand look silly on that last pitch.

That moving camera view gives me motion sickness.

Bradford, in for Ring, does a nice job and the Mets come to bat in the 8th with a commanding lead.

Between innings I've been watching channel 13.
At first they were showing a concert presentation of 'South Pacific'.
Now they're running the famous 'Liza with a Z' concert.

Does this mean I've taken over from Edgy as the board's gay icon?

Oliver makes Nunez look ridiculous on three straight pitchers.

No, you're just gay.

That was directed by Scorscese as superstar payment for her starring in New York, New York, wasn't it?

Edge takes the lead back.

Well, we put a finishing kick into two of the three teams jockeying for second behind us, and Florida followed their strong showing against us by losing three straight to the Dodgers.

The challenge now is to finish the seaon honorably while keeping the team covered the team in bubble wrap to keep any more of them from getting hurt.

]John Maine pitched six shutout innings in the Mets' 8-1 win against the Phillies. Maine has not allowed a run in each of his last three starts. He's the first rookie pitcher to do that -- while throwing at least six innings in each outing -- since the Brewers' Cal Eldred in August 1992. The last National League rookie with three straight scoreless starts of at least six innings was Orel Hershiser, who threw three straight complete-game shutouts for the Dodgers in July 1984. (Hershiser had one relief appearance -- on the Sunday before the All-Star break -- during that streak.)

from Elias.

I'll guess those were longer outings.

Hey Elias, what's the damn Met record that Maine is pursuing?

Gosh--Joe Morgan sure can fill a half an inning with mindless drivel.

I got home late and tuned in the game. I saw the score (8-1 at the time) but knew no details.
When Lastings came to bat, Morgan was off in never- never land talking about something not pertinent to the game. Viewers got no information about what Milledge had done so far in the game, either from the announcers (I use that term loosely) or from a graphic.
The whole ESPN crew was asleep - even the folks in the "truck".

I think Morgan gets at least some crap from the seamhead community because although a terrifically sound player from a sabermetric standpoint (outrageous value/position, good SB%, power, D, OBP) its obvious he accomplished all that without thinking about the same things they did: He kinda undermines their work.

I like Miller quite a bit -- and take my Joe with lotta salt, and enjoy them.

I actually enjoyed Joe during the WBC--he talked a lot about the mechanics of hitting and how it differed from team to team, which I found pretty interesting. Watching him during the regular MLB season was like getting dunked in cold water. He has a tendency to get fixated on something and talk about it to death.

Anyway, I don't mind watching him call other teams, but I don't want him near the Mets. Part of that is that I love our SNY crew, though. Tough act to follow.

Agreed about Morgan. What he does best is talking about how to do what's going on out there --- batting, baserunning, and fielding.

On strategy he's usually loud and wrong.

On defending traditional prejudices in scouting and development, he's usually loud and wrong.

On knowledge of contemporary players, he's usually loud and wrong.

He made a great argument once about diving into first, that it's usually a really dumb play but there is a place for it. I imagined a conversation of him and Pete Rose debating it.

I think he can be an asset. But generally he's a liability.
