According to metsblog.com.

Well, if true Linebrink would effectively replace Sanchez, and Robo should be an upgrade over Bell. A net improvement in our pitching, I'd say. As for our offense, it depends on how Milledge does.

Linebrink steps into the musical Met role previously occupied by Jose Lima, Matt Ginter, and such.

Yeah, I'm not taking this one to the bank yet.

The initial Nady trade hasn't even been officially announced yet, has it?

I'm trying to find a more reliable source, but all baseball sites are hella slow. I can't even get back on metsblog.

In the meantime, I'll change the title.

FAN just said the Mets will have nothing further to report. So no Linebrink?

Mets get RHP Scott Linebrink; San Diego Padres get LHP Oliver Perez and RHP Heath Bell. Story

Yahoo is reporting that Rotonews is reporting that ESPN is reporting the trade is done... Perez and Bell for linebrink!

yeah, Omar!

omar is on the fan, i cant exactly determine if the linebrink deal has happened. i dont think it has?

Seeing as how it's 3 hours past the deadline, and Omar's been on the radio without mentioning it I'd say it was a false report to begin with.
All trades have to be into MLB offices by 4 - so they'd have to have submitted the deal but are somehow sitting on it since.

Who is 'MetsBlog' anyway?
In the other deals he always cited ESPN is reporting that ..., or according to FoxSports, etc. Except for the Linebrink one where he simply said: 'The Mets will trade ...' without any other attribution.
Sounds like a member of IFPSA !

FK: >>>Who is 'MetsBlog' anyway?<<<

It's Matthew Cerrone or something like that. I just looked at the first page
quickly. He emailed Jayson Stark today, his hair is messy, and he (like cbs
and espn) heard about a deal ready to rock or whatever.

These guys are fun to read at one's leisure, but I ain't relying on someone with
messy hair and a nearly fried laptop for Mets news.

I heard the interview and he mentioned this deal but I don't really know what the hell he said.

From the Padres site..

]SAN DIEGO -- The Padres are starting to look like Boston West.
Resisting numerous overtures for setup reliever Scott Linebrink in their pursuit of an established third baseman, the Friars added depth to their bench by acquiring veteran infielder Todd Walker from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline on Monday. They surrendered Minor League right-hander Jose Ceda, general manager Kevin Towers disclosed.

I guess what I meant was, is he a guy with some sort of actual connections/credentials or just a Fanboi with a website regurgitating already existing news?

Considering that every single deal I saw was attributed to some real life news service except for the one that turned out to be not true which cited no source at all ... leads me to believe that it's the latter rather than the former and that his brief foray into journalism got him snagged.

I knew what you meant, I was being a little sarcastic and even less funny.
I mean, this guy may very well have some kind of connections to people in
the media like Stark but really what does Stark know that he ain't publishing
himself and is he gonna tell some blogger if he does have a tidbit of inside
info so he can comb the hair from his eyes and boot up the fried laptop and
tell everyone about it before he can and earn his paycheck?

It's all kinda dumb to me, but I do find some of those guy fun in small doses.

Frayed Knot- i have nothing against someone "blogging" by properly citing deals and rumors to credible sources and then providing his own analysis of those moves, in fact i encourage it. What i don't like are guys who act like they know things that they don't and like to cite to their "anonymous sources"

I read Metsblog regularly. Cerrone is definitely not one of those hacks. From what I can tell, he's right in the middle of things...breaking the Sanchez story this morning.

He jumped the gun on the Linebrink trade, but so did CBS and ESPN News.

He's ok in my book.

I too read it regularly, as he tends to always have a nice rundown of the various press on the Mets on any given day.

What drives me crazy though is that he's unable to complete a sentence, ever. I'm not exactly the punctuation police, but that blog is out of control terrible in that area.

Folks can blog all they want - I'm not looking to stop them.
I dont' usually read much of that kind of stuff but was mainly curious if the guy knew what he was talking about or is making it up as he goes along.

Not sure, in this case, whether the media got it from the bloggers or the bloggers from the media.
