MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 This is such a weird game. The Mets will probably win on an Endy Chavez homer. This was all my fault. I went out to do som,e stuff around the house before the top of the ninth.I accept all blame.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 A Jack Reed moment.Jack Reed: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/R/jack-reed.shtmlA Yankee scrub. His only major league homer won an extra inning game for the Yankees against the Tigers. IIRC, that was a game in which Jim Bouton went seven innings in relief and showed the Yankees he should be a starter.Later
Guest KC Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 It ain't over, let's get it back. I don't know who half the players on the Yanks are.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 No hope. Mystique, Aura, and Mariano Rivera are on their side.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Sounds like Shea is full of Yankee fans.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Motherfather.Their Sandman is better than our Sandman.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 And it was such a nice day out, too.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Shit game on both sides.I wanna puke.
Guest KC Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Put that in the books, Howie ... I hope Joe Torre's (who seemed to be lookingat his watch) dinner plans were at least ruined.
Guest old original jb Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 What a dispiriting game.Wagner should have been pulled about two hitters sooner. And what's with letting Cairo prance around the bases as much as he wants? Did anyone ever hear of holding on a runner in a tight game?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 The lesson learned: never get your hopes up. The Yankees will always be better.
Guest old original jb Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Willets Point wrote:The lesson learned: never get your hopes up. The Yankees will always be better. That's kind of how they played the last few innings. Randolph acted as though it would be a challenge to the fates to stop the Yankees' rally by pulling out Wagner or an affront to the baseball gods to try to keep Cairo from advancing.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Ya know--if Wagner gets em 1-2-3 in the 9th Willie does good.Shuts the door- preserves Pedros win. Willie looks wonderful. But Billy didnt. If he was inserted to get out the meat of the lineup-he didnt. Go out, slap him on the back and say nice try.And pull him there. At that point Willie froze like a deer in the headlights and let Wags hang in the breeze.I do not understand this.I can see the logic in bringing Wags in, tho I may not agree with it.But why do you leave him there the way he was throwing? How many freakin pitches did he throw? 30? He did his job last night in style, which, BTW, is to [u:002a5d771e]save[/u:002a5d771e] games. Here his job was to get the meat of the order out--he didnt do his job.You dont lose any face by pulling him after the walk to Cabrera loads the bases. If not there, then definatly after he hit Bernie. Im just flabergasted by the ninth. That was so ugly.
Guest old original jb Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 One of the ugliest innings I've ever seen. And it wasn't the meat of the order. It started with the bottom of the order. And I still want to know why Miguel Cairo is given a free pass around the bases. This looked like one of those Harlem Globetrotters games, and the Mets were the Washington Generals.
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 The Yankees will always be winners and the Mets will always be losers...Forever and ever. As it has always been.

Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 ="cleonjones11"]The Yankees will always be winners and the Mets will always be losers...Forever and ever. As it has always been. The only thing worse than all of us spending so much time on computers to talk about the Mets is you spending the same amount of time mindlessly bashing them and acting like a jackass. Either go join a Yankees forum or just go get a life.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I nominate this game for "Worst Loss of the Year." Reminiscent of Looper in Pittsburgh last year only worse cuz its the MFY's at home. I don't want to see the game that could beat it for worst lost.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Absolutely. And I thought last Sunday's defeat was bad! This takes the cake-- Lets see what we're made of and if we can bounce back tomorrow like the MFY did today.
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Willets Point wrote:I nominate this game for "Worst Lost of the Year." .Yup. What makes it even worse for me was that I lost my biggest I-told-you-so ever--I DVDed the game and practically coughed up my liver bitching when when WWSB took out Sanchez and put in Wagner. Wasn't concerned so much that Wagner would blow it as much as Wagner worked last night and could be needed tomorrow, while Sanchez looked terrific. I was all WTF is he doing,? and I'm still all WTF. For me this just happened 15 minutes ago, and I'm still red in the face.I don't blame Wagner at all--this is ALL on WWSB.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 bleh. This game sucked. I'd much rather have been watching it on tv than have some yankee fuck smirk over his shoulder at me every time Rivera struck out another over-anxious Met. The first 8 innings were pretty fucking sweet, though. Sanchez should've pitched the 9th. Willie should've pulled Wagner after he walked the bases full. From where I sat (fairly far away), Matsui should've gotten rid of the ball faster. Castro should've tried to stop Cairo from running wild.Ultimately, I blame Wagner, but we all knew Wags didn't have it way before Willie did. Shades of Petey 2003. If this had been the game that ended our playoff hopes, Willie would be gone.U-G-L-Y. We'd better fucking win tomorrow.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 FWIW: 3 of the Mets last 4 losses have been by one run.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 This picture says it all.Wags should never have been in a position to get so flustered. It was tough to watch. This is just one game, and one we could afford to let get away - at this time anyway. Phils got beat by the boSox and the Braves were tramuatized by Arizona. The team will bounce back.Tonight would be nice.Get Wags back out there ASAP, in a save situation.Tonight?Id like to see that, but i think he threw too many pitches in that dibolical.So---we kick azz 2nite-Off day Monday-Then bring on the Phils- and thats much more important.
