Rumor on Metsblog is that Bannister's hamstring is torn and that he could be out another month...nothing confirmed though.

If Lima's out and Bannister is out, then they must have made some sort of decision as to who's going to fill that gap.

The TV guys said the MRI showed that Bannister's hammy "isn't fully healed yet" -- meaning he's going to have to wait a while before getting back into the swing of things. Between rest and rehab it's gotta be at least another month at this point.

Not necessarily. Omar says (if you believe him) that there's to be a meeting of all the people who matter (however few that is) where all options will be considered (as long as those options aren't specified).

This gets an extra bullpenner on the squad until Lima's turn.

Gary kept saying that Heilman proved his worth in the bullpen tonight, but I totally think the opposite. Like Edgy said in the IGT, starting Heilman helps limit the number of shit starts like this one where we need a guy like Heilman to bail us out.

Pity about Bannister, but so long as we're not throwing scrubs out there for both our 4 & 5, we'll survive.

I still don't buy this. If this game was 1-1 and not 6-6 we'd presumably still need somebody of Heilman's ability.

If it were 6-1, somebody else would get those innings and Heilman would have the night off.

Exactly. If we keep below-replacement level scrubs as our #4 & #5 guys, we're not going to need Heilman the nights they start because we probably won't be in the game. For that matter, we likely won't need Sanchez or Billy either.

If our starters can't keep us in the game, our terrific bullpen will be close to useless.

I mean, I'm pretty high on our offense, but even I don't think we can put up 7+ runs every 4th & 5th day.

Unless, of course, they let us face Randy Johnson every 4th & 5th day.

on edit: Oh, and if the game were 1-1, our starting pitcher would presumably have gone more than 3 innings, meaning we wouldn't need our bullpen quite so much.

Well, okay, but the only internal non-replacement level scrubs are Soler & Pelfrey.

If we bring up one of them, I'm okay with leaving Heilman in the pen, but frankly, I'd rather use Heilman and keep Soler & Pelfry marinating in the minors until our next injury.

I'm okay with using Bannister as our #5 when he gets healthy. Until then, a scrub would be acceptable to me (provided Soler or Pelfrey is the #4).

So to sum up, I think our top choice is moving Heilman to the rotation. We'd still have a great bullpen and our rotation would be far better. Second choice would be Soler or Pelfrey. We'd upgrade our rotation and keep an incredible bullpen. Last choice would be a trade. I don't think we'd get back any one nearly as good as Heilman, so I view that as a slight improvement on our rotation.

The wifey thread will take a hit with the loss of Mrs. Lima, but it's good to know that her husband won't be making any more starts for the Mets.

I thought it was interesting that Willie used Heilman for 3 innings, rather than replace him with Sanchez as he normally would do. I hope this was a mini-audition for Heilman's moving imnto the rotation.

Before the game, he's totally non-commital when asked about what their plans are for Lima, plans that have obviously been made, the paperwork done, BEFORE any bullshit meeting of the Mets' minds, bbbyyyy...

In WFAN interviews this past week, both Omar and Willie have been talking about starting help from within the organization. Two names that have been getting mentioned more and more are Soler and Evan MacClain.
