Met-Loving Fictional Big Shots

We had a thread going of famous people who are Met fans, anyone know of famous (or not so famous) fictional characters who were Met fans at some point in their "creative" history

First one I can recall knowing about was in a children's story long ago (read it in 82-83) about a kid named Ezra being a Met fan. Had illustrations of the kid in the Hall in Cooperstown with, I'm guessing, a huge portrait of Seaver in the background.

Obviously the character Jerry Seinfeld in Seinfeld, trying to think of others. I'm sure anything set in New York during the 80's had to have Met fan characters in it!

I'm guessing in the world of comic books that Peter Parker/Spidey is a Met supporter. Sorry Yance, but I'm not buying a gruff fellow from the Bronx, despite his current orange and blue state being anything but a Ever Loving, Blue Eyed Yankee Fan!

In the 1960's he made more than a few references to the Mets, even before 1969. I can't say what he is now, but in the hands of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Thing was a Mets fan.

And he's not from the Bronx, he's from Yancy Street, which is in downtown Manhattan.

Your fictional list should include Oscar Madison, Archie Bunker, Ray and Robert Barrone, and Tony Soprano.

I take that back then, thought Yancy Street was in the Bronx. WHOOPS!

Actually Ray Barrone may have been more a Yankee fan, there are no direct references to his childhood team, other than Mickey Mantle being his favorite player.

Correct about Robert, though more to the point about Ray, the moment Robert became an Art Shamsky fan, Shamsky was a Red! (Homer his first MLB AB) so maybe Ray was a Mantle/Met fan

Where are the Soprano as a Met references? I know Shea was seen as the venue of a middle of the night meeting with Johnny Sac, but that could mean thats where they wanted to meet.

Just a few weeks ago Tony mentioned being at Opening Day at Shea in 1981.

And there were numerous Mets references in Raymond throughout its run. No way was Ray Barrone a Yankees fan.

Add Josh Lyman of The West Wing to your list of Mets fans. Toby Ziegler, sad to say, is a Yankees fan.

Not sure about City Slickers though, frankly it might be that it was the only hat that said NY in that shop and the character (who shared Crystal's real life first ever game at Yankee Stadium) just wanted anything with New York on it

Crystal had a Met hat and jersey on in the opening sequence and had the hat on during the first scene on the ranch.

The characters in Motherless Brooklyn followed the Mets, particluarly the half-a-fag ones like Rusty Staub, Lee Mazzilli, and Gary Carter.

Archie Bunker: Mets fan. George Jefferson was too, but he probably traded up to the Yankees when he moved on up to the East Side.

The characters in Frequency sure had a Mets jones.

Oscar Madison, though, is the slammer.

Ahhh, my Jay Satan post! No wonder, I'm talking about a rat fink MFY Fan who wanted to give the Mets a "Thanks" for contributing to Comic Aid (or whatever its called, his charity with Whoppie Goldberg and Robin Williams)
