Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I may have been bitched to by an old socialite friend of Mrs. Payson once!Long story... Lets just say don't tell a socialite that she is the reason the Mets just gave up a few runs in the top of the first...

Lets just say don't tell a socialite that she is the reason the Mets just gave up a few runs in the top of the first...Might as well tell this tale.I'm sitting on the field level right on the opposing dugout, we are getting pounced upon in the first, I want to say it was against the Braves. Shortly after the Alomar trade. This elderly couple (woman actually looked a bit like Joan Payson) comes and sits in the box right next to us, she is right next to me. Oh wait, now I remember, the Braves tied and went ahead just as they sat down. So I give the woman a little grief. Nothing profane, just a joking "See what happened because you came late!" She looked annoyed so I stopped talking to her. Then as the inning was progression I ended up talking to myself, nothing profane but I was clearly bothering her.So she asks the girl sitting RIGHT BEHIND ME to tell me to shut up! I'm not kidding, she had someone else tell me to shut up! As soon as I heard her speak I began to move and made sure I sat in the aisle seat for the rest of the game! Now if you want me to shut up, fine, just do so to my face, don't ask another spectator to shut me up!At least she didn't signal to security!Steve

Wondering if this was a family associate or something. The fellow she was with looked a little like one of Fred's associates Saul Katz though.
