I never saw that 1970 Dodger yearbook cover before.

Interesting the way each team is represented. Except for the Dodgers and Mets, only the Reds are shown as a baseball player. Now I finally know what an "Expo" looks like. The strangest thing is that instead of showing the Giants as the guy from "Jack and the Beanstalk" they chose the guy from the vegetable commercials. Weird.

That's a great yearbook cover.

Interesting that the Philly is the only one that is not attacking OR even defending himself. Did they suck in '69 or something?

I'll be making my 2006 pilgrimage to Shea this Saturday for the night game against the Orioles. It will be my first interleague game that I'll attend since October 25, 1986. (For some reason that game sticks in my mind.)

Hopefully Pedro will be pitching. If not, I don't know who it'll be. Pelfrey, perhaps?

That yearbook cover rocks. Now we know the hardest National League teams to literally visualize --- an Expo, a Met, a Red, and a Phillie.

If I was on the editorial team, I'd suggest that the Phillies be represented by a mare, the Reds be represented by a beret-wearing red star-brandishing communist, the Mets be represented by an urbane swell, and the Expos by an exhibitionist.

For modern-day National League additions, I guess a Marlin is easy enough, and a Brewer can be rendered with a little imagination, but what do you do for the Rockies. I'm thinking either some sort of golem-like man-mountain or maybe a knockoff of The Thing.

Or maybe a punch-drunk boxer.

I guess a literal Dodger can be represented by morally tortured young American male heading to Canada.

I'll say it again...that is a GREAT yearbook cover.

Edit: I'm Mikey!!! I'm married to a chick that was in Penthouse!!! I'm not gay!!!

Even in its badness, it's good. Look at all the stuff that wouldn't fly today. All the human characters are white plus the "Brave" has a big honkin' hook nose.

And I imagine Seneca Foods would slap a cease-and-decist order on them for trademark infringement over that Giant in about seven seconds.

Are those words under the Dodger's left cleat? The best I can make it out is Cape Hubstink.

Looks like the Brave is stabbing him with the soft end of his arrow.

Leaving for Shea soon. If we get there early enough, we'll get Toyota Mets beach towels!

Starting to wish I had a Blackberry.

Got a Palm Piolt for Christmas two years ago, battery life is now down to pretty much 5 minutes and I have no bloddy clue how to solder in a new one

Probably going to go see Pedro pitch tomorrow for my first ever non-minor league Mets game.

Will be attending tomorrow's game with my father, our first trip together to Shea since 1983 (as a rambunctious 16-year-old, I could no longer take his "root for the other team to get under my skin" routine, and vowed never to go back).
Well, we're going back. But I won't let the fact that he'll surely have a little wager on the Reds ruin my day.

I know what you mean, Hahn. My father loved to rip on the Mets, especially during the lean years. He used to offer to buy me beers for the game if the player of my choice could "get the ball out of the infield" during any plate appearance. Of course, this didn't always work out so well for me.

He's a Tigers fan, and it was pretty bad after the sweep in '97. I had the upper hand after the '04 sweep -- we went to the game when Piazza was honored and Cameron hit the walk-off HR into the bleachers -- but he's now taken to reminding me (daily) how many games the Tigers are ahead of the Mets in the standings.

We still manage to get to Shea about once a year though. I think I might have to take him to the House of Evil though, to see the Tigers when they come to town in August...

Speaking of enemy territory, I'll be storming Yankee Stadium on Friday night, park myself in my usual Friday night seat and I shall say "Lets Go Mets!"

You have a "usual" seat at Yankee Stadium?

And he also said he was rooting for the Yankees to beat the Braves.

Time to break out the pitchforks and torches!

My Dad's company has had a Friday/Saturday plan since around 1997

Usually used for clients (a Real Estate title company) some games get squrilled away, specifically when the Mets play in Da Bronx

In fairness, tickets were being released (still are, probably) and I picked up a pair for Saturday afternoon in the House of Evil. At least it's not Jeter's birthday this time (it was when I went in '04 and '05. Ugh.)

Between pissing off KC and frequenting Yankee Stadium I think SteveJRogers is dangerously close to joining Bret Sabremetric.
