Atlanta up 4-0 after one on the Dodgers and Derek "the Philanderer" Lowe. The Benson Bunch is a seedy lot.

Philadelphia, Dickshot's pick to rival the Mets to the line in the division chase, are down 13-1 to the Cardinals, the best team in the National League until somebody says they aren't. The Cards put up eight runs in the fourth against ill-paired Rock 'n' Roll Hall-of-Famers Lieber and Santana.

Florida plays Houston tonight at seven. And the Nationals are, you know, 0-1.

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_431148.jpgIn the American League, a bunch of teams are playing a bunch of other teams. The Orioles didn't give the opening-day start to the aforementioned Kris Benson, but that didn't stop their makeshift lineup from opening up both barrels on Scott Kazmir, who has yielded five runs in four innings and looks awful in the Rays' new sea-green hat.

Go, Sam Perlozzo!

In full disclosure, the O's are only up 5-4, as Rodrigo Lopez isn't doing any better than Kazzy.

6-4, as Millar drives one in against Jason Childers, who looks scantly better in the hat.

Welcome to San Diego Mr. Piazza.

Mikey hits an opposite field blast in his first Padres AB.

Just saw the home run. Good form, Mikey.

He's got his goatee back and his hair's longer.

He added a single later--2-4 with a dinger as San Diego won in convincing fashion, 6-1.

Bonds went 1-4 with a double. Barfield with his first big league hit--a single.

I need to ask a dumb question, lets say Kazmir flames out, what responsibility if any do the Mets have in his career?, what i mean is that if he were still with the Mets chances are that he would still be in the minors,it looks like he was rushed ot the bigs and perhaps this might ruin him.....

Well, if we accept your premise that he was rushed and that it ruined him, wouldn't the responsibility lie with Tampa Bay?

Posted

Agreed. Once the Mets made a decision to trade him (enough on that) they can't NOT do it simply because they're afraid of how the new team might or might not use him. Besides, deciding that the reason he flamed out (playing along w/the assumption here) was due to too much/too soon is always kind of speculative anyway.

Unless until he strikes out 13 in his next start.

Barry Bonds, boooed lustily at Petco, including one fan hurling a syringe.

Let's not turn him into too sympathetic a figure just yet.

I told you that Mike's decline last year was due to Wilie's stupid facial hair rule. Look at him....goatee...opposite field HR at Petco. Need I say more.

I guess that's why he pitched so poorly today.

Mike Jacobs with a 3-run homer tonight. 1-4 with a walk.

3 HR tonight. 2 by rookies, and one by a kid under 23. I know they've been gutted, but the Marlins will still be fun to watch--they've got some talented youngsters.

speaking of Jacobs, Johjima is challenging him with his second homer in 2 games.
