nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 considering that most people in a fantasy baseball league don't check every day (you can set your lineup in advance) i felt 4 days was a good amount for waivers, waivers shouldnt be about who happens to be logged on at 4:00am when an owner drops a potential all-star or a team calls up a top prospect that Yahoo didn't have on the free agent list (hey Cole!)As for trades I hope we never have to void one, but in the unlikely event that someone trades Alex Rodriguez for Endy Chavez the league needs time to step in.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 i find it kind of interesting that Valadius and Willets have taken the exact same approach to our league... that is, they've done absolutely nothing with their teams since the draft, including leaving DLed players in their lineups... and yet Valadius is in 1st place and Willets is in last. So, benign neglect doesn't have to be a losing strategy, it seems.i need to pay less attention to this whole thing, i'm thinking.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 i think thats a function of the "auto-draft", i'm not sure how many people were actually there, i couldnt be because of work and my team looks NOTHING like a team i would actually draft.yes this is a bit of whining on my part, but my point is that in every live-draft/auction i've ever done the teams that don't pay attention will inevitably sink to the bottom.oh and i'm not "accusing" anyone of not paying attention, i'm just going by what the above posters said.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Before I go all 'trade police' and vote against it, I guess I'll poll public opinion:Is it me, or is the trade that smg58 and Willet's have pending right now (A-Rod for Youkilis & Ray) too ridiculous to let slide, or did I just wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 The other day, Willet's Points offered me A-Rod for Youkilis and Kenny Ray. After letting it sit two days and consulting with the commissioner, I decided the best course of action was to accept the deal and leave it in the hands of the other owners as to whether this is acceptable. I will not protest a negative result.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 i'm waiting or a response from willets myself, i wont void any trade in a free league if the owner honestly believes it will help his team win and he couldnt do better. but this looks to me like "i'm in last, i dont care, i'll help my friend." the fact that he didnt publicly shop $-rod first is pretty damning, i'm in a league right now (a keeper league) where i'm "dumping" andy friggin pettite with his 5.5 ERA and i'm STILL shopping him around to avoid anyone saying i helped a contender by not getting the best offer i could.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Sorry I don't know how to shop around. I figured if I'm going to be in last place I can do it without A-Rod, whom I loathe. Smg58 is the only who had a third baseman listed on his wish list so I offered him the trade. I'm not particularly more friendly with smg58 than anyone else.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 For the record, the only person I know personally here is patchyfogg. I don't know Willets or anybody else, and do not have any reason to be more or less friendly with any of you.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Thanks everyone. I appreciate that neither Willets nor smg was trying to do anything shady, but I can't really approve of such an unbalanced trade. I'll be voting against this one.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 OK, really when I click "propose trade" I have to select one team and then have to select at least one of that team's players or I get an error message. I don't see a way to just say "A-Rod's avaialable to one and all, please make an offer." If you guy's know something else let me know.I also don't know how to cancel this trade proposal that everyone hates.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 It's already been vetoed. So no harm done.Willets, don't give up on the season just yet. We're only a third of the way in, and a lot can still happen.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 ]Sorry I don't know how to shop around. I figured if I'm going to be in last place I can do it without A-Rod, whom I loathe. I'm not particularly more friendly with smg58 than anyone elseposting on the league message board or here in this forum "I'm looking to trade Arod, please send offers" would be a good start. If nobody follows up on such a post they'd have nobody to blame but themselves when Arod goes to another team too cheaply.it seems that the trade has died before i even wrote this post, everyone should now realize that he's available and hopefully flood your inboc with fair offers.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Now for a segment called OlerudOwned is soul-crushlingly bored, so he's going to see how some noteable the April/May trades worked out!Apr 2NYMR83 gets:J. Payton (Oak - OF)M. Mussina (NYY - SP) smg58 gets:J. Hermida (Fla - OF) C. Politte (CWS - RP)Highway robbery. Mussina has been great, Hermida and Payton each did nothing for either team, and Politte got DFA'd by the White SoxApr 4metirish gets:J. Varitek (Bos - C)smg58 gets:J. Garland (CWS - SP) Metirish has them both now. How the bloody hell did that happen? Garland got traded later on with Doug Davis for Craig Wilson and John Patterson, D.L., that's how.Apr 4Vic Sage gets:S. Podsednik (CWS - OF)R. Zimmerman (Was - 3B) abogdan gets:Lui. González (Col - 1B,2B,3B,SS,OF)B. Myers (Phi - SP) Podsednik has 28 steals and Zimmerman started hitting like a man afire. Myers was traded later on, and Gonzalez is a fantasy bachelor.Apr 21metsmarathon gets:B. Myers (Phi - SP) abogdan gets: C. Utley (Phi - 1B,2B) abogdan gets a top tier 2nd baseman, but metsmarathon nabs the league high 17 points in the "Spouses Battered" catagory.Apr 24GYC gets:J. Thome (CWS - 1B) theoldmole gets:B. Zito (Oak - SP) Zito's been a great starter, and Thome's been one of the best hitters in the game. Star Power.May 18JGYC gets:J. Michaels (Cle - OF) D. Báez (LAD - RP)Todd Helton's Meat gets: A. Dunn (Cin - 1B,OF) C. Qualls (Hou - RP)Adam Dunn has hit .269 with 17 HR on my team compared .222 with 13 HR beforehand. Baez recorded his 9th save of the season while on my roster. Baez still has nine saves. And I'm more beautiful than you.And that's why trading is fun: someone almost always loses. And speaking of losers, I'm going to find a hobby. Pray for me.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I should've traded earlier. I'm the biggest loser in this bunch.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I'm glad most of my subsequent trades have worked out better than my first two. I was sure Mussina was washed up, but at least he's the only guy I regret dealing. Hermida gave me a decent average and nothing else. Garland has been passable since I traded him, but he had been terrible up to that point. I don't regret the Patterson deal because I was cutting at least Garland and possibly Davis otherwise.
