nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 ]you really should get something extra for a no-no in fantasy scoring. I never set a league up myself- is there an option for using the catagory : no-hitters? that might work in a point league or H2H league, but in a rotisserie league having such a narrow category (the "winner" of the category would get 17 points for his 1 no-hitter while the other 16 teams would all get "8" with 0 no-hitters) would be very stupid. perhaps we'll look into a points league next year for variety if people are up for it.i would guess, though i havent checked, that yahoo isnt foolish enough to make that a category choice in rotisserie leagues. they may or may not have it as a choice in other leagues where it would make more sense.i'd be against it either way, even in a points league, as i feel it is too narrow and not even a meaningful category just an indication of luck (see Burnett's non-no in which he walked NINE batters.) if we did have a points league next year i wouldn't mind giving pitchers a bonus for a shutout.

And there are playoffs!Im for splitting the CPF into two H2H leagues (makes for a much lower maintenence season) and having the two champs face off here on the board in some kind of competition.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 theres no point in having 2 leagues, i LIKE having a deep league in which the mediocre players who would languish on the free agent list are useful.maybe some people think its fun to choose between tom glavine and john lackey in your rotation, but you can do that in a yahoo public league. a large league (which dont exist publicly) makes you choose between john maine and pat maholm, and i like that.i personally really dislike H2H for baseball, but we'll take a poll of participants again next year and we'll see.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I don't have a lot of fantasy experience, but I for one have really enjoyed the way the large league forced us to be creative with more obscure players this year.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 i'm going to reserve further comment on rules on my part until the offseason, we'll be plenty bored between the world series parade and pitchers & catchers.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I just personally think 17 teams is too many.Too much maintenence - too much time studying the dregs of the major leagues. And 5x5 is boooooring.Thats just me.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I've liked the challenge of 17 teams, actually.I'd like to go 7x7, with OBP and SLG added for offense and losses and homers added for pitchers. I felt there wasn't enough disincentive to stockpiling starting pitchers (at least before Liriano went on the pine and my other starters all forgot how to pitch -- I can't even get an OK start from most of my guys these days). I was fine with 5x5 though, and I get the feeling that reaching a consensus on an alternative will be difficult to achieve if the league has a similar size next year.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 i'd be very unhappy to see the league size shrink. depth is FUN.as far as 7x7 i think its easier to REPLACE batting avg with OBP and HRs with SLG and to use W-L instead of W than it is to go 7x7 (while we're at it we could turn saves into SV-BS and SB to SB-CS as well) or we could try a points league. i did a league that used Total Bases one year insteda of something, that wasn't a terrible idea either.smg is right about stockpiling starters, i suggested a maximum innings but people disagreed. W-L would help that but i think it would also disincentive taking good pitchers on bad teams which is not something i'd want to see. perhaps replacing Ks with K/9 would do a better job of stopping people from stockpiling bad starters without penalizing good pitchers on bad teamsso much for me keeping my mouth shut till the offseason, its 4am and i'm bored.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I've loved this league (and not just because I'm winning), and the large number of teams is one of the main reasons. Having to find guys like Uggla is one of the best parts of playing the damn game.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 i drafted uggla in another league and traded him for Mr. April- Wandy Rodriguez.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 this was a good pennant race--(fun to watch anyway).I didnt think Heltons meat could be beat.(that dont sound right)
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks to everybody who participated. It's been fun. I'll officially wait to congratulate abogdan until tomorrow, but it's looking good for him.See you all next draft time in March?
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 i've gotta pay more attention to these things. i ignored my way to 9th place (so far), but i'm trying to make a tltl push for 8th!
