Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 The Dutch have an early 5-0 lead in this matchup of winless Pool C teams.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 So the Netherlands squad has players from Curacao and other Dutch possesions, but the US possesion Puerto Rico competes seperately. This is odd. I'm not against it, but it is odd.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 It's odd, but it also makes sense. They kind of have to scratch around to get together a whole Netherlands team. But it wouldn't make sense to fold Puerto Rico into the U.S. You'd kill the rooting interest of Puerto Ricans and, as we've seen, that's something you want to cultivate, not kill.If only there was as much money in Puerto Rico as there is love for baseball. San Juan would then be a great spot for a franchise.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Yea that's what I was trying to get at.Former Met farmhand Robert Eenhoorn coaching for the Netherlands.

Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I think you mean "dikes"; Now, dykes would probably whup any team's ass, I figure. They'd need the astute management of someone like Butch Huskey to win an All-Genders Series..
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 "Dyke" is an acceptable variant of "dike". http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=dyke
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Oh, shit, you got SKOOLED, Bret!I'd be suprised if the Netherlands win this one. Has Andruw been hitless the entire series?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Netherlands beats Panama with the mercy rule, 10-0 in 7 inningsThe Dutch starter Martis threw a "complete" game. He's 18 years old, and it was a no-hitter! Later
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 White is the new black.Sounds like Panama had no more wind in their sails after that loss to Cuba.Too bad. They deserve better than an 0-3.

Let 'em scratch, thinks I. Scratching together teams to take on the titans of a given sport is part of international competition. But if they can't get teams together on their own...
