MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 According to the 2:40 update on WFAN, the Mets got Tike Redman - for cash. There's the backup centerfielder, one who is several decades younger than G. Williams. What's not to like? (Other than his awful OBP)?Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Is his bro still with the Mets?
Guest sharpie Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Lefthanded hitter, has some speed, plays all 3 outfield positions. I'm down with Tike.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 It's hard to imagine one set of parents naming one child "Tike" and the other "Prentice."
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 It's a big world. Lots of names out there.Prentice is no longer part of the Mets system, having been signed by the Cards earlier this month.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Out: Mets named Mike. In: Mets named Tike.I'm head over heels over this. No foolin'. Tike Redman has been slapping us around for however long he's been in the big leagues. He was right in the middle of that Friday night debacle at PNC. I refuse to look up any statistics to disturb my perception that he's hitting .877 against us lifetime. I'm sure it's true.Tike Redman can't hurt us anymore. Except, perhaps, from within.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 we lost a Prentice and picked up a Tike.Do the Mets have a "Redman" quota?Damn racist organization... I guess this means a return of John Franco is definitely out!Speaking of red men, who was that St. John's pitching prospect we had once upon a time... Terry Bross? Eric Hillman? I forget which one it was.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Terry Bross. Prep school classmate of Ms. Met.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 oh, and by the way... Tike's career OPS+ = 80.Yes, I said "80". Hardly a talent worth getting excited about.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Gerald Williams' career OPS+ = 82, a figure he hadn't reached since 2000. Tike can prolly catch the ball better than Gerald and he's a lefty. Plus, his name is Tike. All of these things make him better.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Yeah I'm not too excited over Tike, though he sorta fits my definition of a career switching young veteran as detailed in the Collier thread.Plus he's an above average CFer and OK runner, which are also Collier qualifiers, so I guess I'm good for him being this year's Gerald Williams.
Guest rpackrat Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Yeah, but his 9th most comparable hitter, according to babseballreference.com, is our own Johnny Dickshot.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 And his 9th most similar to age 28 is Baby Doll Jacobson who later went 19-97-.318 at age 33 for the '25 Browns and then hit .341 the next year. I expect great things from Tike. May he be a Baby Doll!
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 saying he's better than Gerald Williams is damning with the faintest of praise.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Tike, lol. The NY Post will have a field day with this kids name, no matter what he does for us, good or bad.

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 What was the name of Buster Brown's dog?

Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 D'Oh!Well, I was close about the other stuff.]It's a Family Affair - Last Tuesday, Prentice Redman's mother and stepfather came to watch him play in person for the first time in his major league career. It was a 2-for-1 deal, since they were also able to see Prentice's big brother, Tike, who was the starting centerfielder for the Pirates.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 His first name isn't Tike. That's his nickname. His full name is Julian Jawann Redman.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Yeah, but I'm not going to be the one to go up to him and say, "Hi JJ!"
Guest sharpie Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Tige, not Tike for the dog.May 6, 2002 -- He was a little rich kid with a blond pageboy haircut who was always getting into mischief, but also had a serious side. One hundred years ago this week, Buster Brown and his dog Tige made their debut in a Sunday comic strip in the New York Herald. The pair soon appeared in newspapers around the country and went on to become even more famous when the Brown Shoe Co. adopted them as mascots
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 So Buster Brown and the Brady Bunch not only have the same initials, but they also both named their dogs after the same breed of cat.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Wow, something I talked about actually happened.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Now talk about me finding a billion dollars in the street and quitting my job.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 We needed a lefty outfielder who could play all three positions, and while Tike might not be a great hitter, he should fill the role adequately at basically no cost.So the bench at present is Tike, Nady, Castro, Woodward, and an infielder to be determined. It's looking less and less likely that Eric Valent will get another chance in the majors as a Met. Hopefully he'll latch on elsewhere.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I'm Buster Brown,I live in a shoe. That's my dog Tige,Look for him there too.Didn't we just run across Terry Bross as someone's agent?
