Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Marty Noble on Mets.com reports that Milledge, Self, Redman and Sandy Martinez are all officially now in Minor-league camp and Matsui is officially on the DL, retroactive to March 18 (eligible to come off April 8).My crystal ball reports that the roster is all but locked in, with 3 possible scenarios (in projected order of liklihood):A: Diaz comes north with either Feliciano or Oliver. Roster crunch probably sends Anderson Hernandez (or possibly Diaz) back to Norfolk when Matsui comes off the DL.B1 Both Feliciano and Oliver come north, Diaz to AAA. Anderson Hernandez back to AAA when Matsui comes back.B2. Both Feliciano and Oliver come north, Diaz to AAA. One of the pitchers to AAA when Matsui comes back
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Matsui could come back and head to extended spring training or a rehab assignment also.

duan Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 not really a 25 man roster note any more but according to Rotoworld Tike Redman's been granted his release.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I suspected he had the right to refuse assignment.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I'm not sure, but I think that Bannister will be the first USC Trojan to appear in a regular season game for the Mets since Tom Seaver in 1984. If only Bret Boone hadn't lost the passion.According to the suspicions of many Poolers, Barry Zito will be next.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 The other Trojan who came to mind was Dave Kingman. But he was released in January 1984. And (I had to look it up) Nady went to Cal, not Southern Cal.Later
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 article in the Post about V.Diaz being on the bubble. it looks like its down to Oliver or Feliciano for the Loogy slot, and the 25th man is either V.Diaz or a 7th RPer (Iriki? Bell? Lima?). I'd much rather have Diaz than an extra arm in the pen.
Guest abogdan Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Heath Bell, Jose Lima, Darren Oliver don't make the 25 man. Diaz is the 4th OF, Feliciano makes the pen, according to FAN.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Good. That was what I was hoping would be the final outcome.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Bah. I wanted Bell in there. 8 IP, 1.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP. Of course, he struck out 2 and walked 4 but still . . .Anyway, Feliciano makes sense as a LOOGY, and blah blah blah, so it's fine, but I'm guessing before long, we'll be asking Willie to dump Julio for Bell.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Now, if Diaz makes the team, does that mean Chavez is out? Or are there roster spots for both of them?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 While we're waiting for Edgy's update, it appears there are spots for both.Looks like they will carry 11 pitchers.Later

Guest abogdan Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Looks like Diaz and Chavez with 11 pitchers.

Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Christ, Elster, Lima hasn't gotten anyone out all spring and Diaz hit quite well in ST (and in MLB previously) and it came down to the wire. It's a total no-brainer, as far as I'm concerned. Though I'm glad the Mets will bring VD north.
Guest abogdan Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Eddie C. on the FAN: Lima accepted an assignment to AAA. Zambrano hurt himself today, so if he has to go on the DL, Lima's waiting in the wings.
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Is METS TREAT VD LIKE HE HAS VD! or VD FAN CLUB a better sign to bring to Shea?I looked but the Mets have never had a player with the initals STD. Victor's the second case of VD they've gotten, the first being Vic Darensbourg.

Still, I think the Mets would be better served with Bell and Ring instead of Julio and Feliciano.
