Guest abogdan Guests Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Why is the battle between Redman and Valentin? Why isn't it between Woodward and Valentin? Or Valentin and the rarely used 12th pitcher? Woodward and Valentin would seem redundant, especially since Woody isn't needed as a RH backup 1B or backup OF. I'd rather see Woody than someone without a real role in the bullpen, like Fortunato.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 What is it? You want Woodie fighting for his life even though you want him above the competitors. This isn't really a picture of what I want, just where the team seems to be at. (An if-the-season-started-today kind of thing.) I dislike twelve pitchers. I'm not keen on eleven. But twelve has been the way they've gone the last few years, through three managers and three GMs.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Maybe that's one of the reasons why there have been three managers and three GMs.Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 in the NL an extra bench player is likely to see more time than an extra pitcher is. 12 pitchers is usually a bad idea, though there are times where its a good idea (you have no offdays and a scheduled doubleheader coming up, you have a starter injured but not on the DL so you're keeping his replacement around)
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Mike DiFelice has been signed by Washington to a minor league deal.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 According to WFAN in New York, the Mets have signed Darren Oliver, Pedro Feliciano and Jose Parra to minor league contracts.Later
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 IIRC, Parra was inked by the MFYs last year?

The unretired types are tricky, because if they pitch reasonably well in the minors and don't get a call, they stand ready to quit. If they don't pitch very well, rather than fight to retain their spot, they tend to quit then also. He's married with two kids, so that gives him less motivation to fight the good fight.Let's see if Felicano's goofball Alexi Lalas Art Howe-era super-goatee survives Randolph.Parra has a chance to finish what he started. If not for a concentrated run of rotten luck, he might be sitting in Padilla's chair.I was looking for a picture of Parra and then recalled that I still had one on my site from his last tenure. Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 NY Times:The Mets offered contracts yesterday to three arbitration-eligible players: the utility man Chris Woodward, catcher Ramon Castro and pitcher Victor Zambrano, ensuring that they remained with the team next season. Yesterday was the deadline for teams to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players, who would have otherwise become free agents. The Mets did not tender major league contracts to pitcher Tyler Yates and outfielder Wayne Lydon, removing them from the 40-man roster.
Guest Matt Murdock, Esq. Guests Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 whatever happened to Eric Valent?I thought he was on the same list of guys who had to be tendered or released.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I think maybe Omar shot him

Keppel and Self also, who appear to be a few weeks too late in leaving.More conspicuously, they have Valentin on the big league roster. If that's true, they already have three backup infielders (Franco, Valentin, and Woodie) all but guaranteed a slot. That leaves Redman et al. to fight for a fifth outfield slot against each other, the candidates for the 12th pitcher, and the Mets.Starting PitchersBensonGlavineMartinezSeoTrachselRelief PitchersBellFortunatoHamulackHeilmanPadillaRelief PitchersCatchersInfieldersWagnerTug McGraw Memorial Goofy Reliever Roster SlotZambranoCastroLo DucaDelgadoDonn Clendenon Memorial Slugging Firstbaseman Roster Slot
