Win or lose, Randolph should be taking a Louisville Slugger to the buffet table tonight.

"If you win, all sins are forgiven," my butt.

I just cracked a beer. . .I am hoping it wasn't because I left the bar but because I stopped drinking beer.

I'm gonna start drinking no matter how this turns out.

nope, obviously it was the bar :(

This was definitely worse than Opening Day. Up by four with two out in the ninth, closer on the mound. You just came off a great series win against the first-place team in your division. Victor Zambrano was excellent.

Dammit. Dammitdammitdammitdammitdammitdammitdammitdammit.

About a billion times worse than opening day. Worse than opening Day 2003, even.

Can you believe Gary just named Castro the "Nikon Camera Player of the Game"? He ought to be sent to Norfolk tonight. I can live with Benito Santiago for a few days.

Fuckup Rollcall Checklist:

1st base: Yup. Anderson's error leads to a run
2nd base: Yup. Cairo's error leads to the winning run
SS: Yup. Reyes w/an error
3B: Not that I can think of
LF: Yup. An oh-fer, plus the critical mis-play
CF: Nothing specific, but can you look at a pitch now and then?
RF: Oh-fer, including 2 Ks plus the ball off your glove led to run #1
C: Umm yeah. You mis-judged that fly ball about 3 different times
P: Heilman = Yup. Looper = didn't get a lot of help but still Yup

I'm switching to Minolta.

Wasn't there something about Randolph being the type of guy who continues to drill on phundamentals well into the season?

Phundamentally phlawed game. We deserve to lose on Cairo's Knoblauch-throw alone. I'm not even sure it deserves a Knoblauch tag. He almost quit on the throw.

Mets? What fundamentals? This team doesn't have particularly good fundamentals.

My balls hurt from this loss.

Well, I'm quite certain I didn't say that they did. But rather that it was widely reported that Randolph intended to continually drill them.

Guess he's let up. Which makes me wonder what he does now anyway, as he continues to bat a .278 OBP at the top of the order. FFS.

This one kept me thinking about it all night.
One question kept coming up:
Why?

Why did Castro stop at third base and look back?
He's been playing ball for (obviously) more than20 years. And from day 1, I'll bet he was told to look for and trust the third base coach in similar situations.

So, the question remains, why did he stop and look back?

The only thing I can think of is that he couldn't find the coach when he looked for him. And, y'know what? When I review the tv shots (including replays) in my mind, I don't remember seeing the third base coach either.

In the heat of the game, it can sometimes be excusable for a player to make a mental mistake.
But not for a coach. That is the only thing they get paid to do - make in-game decisions and relay information to the player.
I know it is more Steinbrenner's style, but if Wilpon/ Omar had any gonads, and wanted to demonstrate that these are a "new" Mets, then Manny Acta is on a plane out of Pittsburgh, and out of the organization, this morning.

This was a humiliating loss, and someone's got to pay.

Crap, I woke up this morning thinking I had a nightmare ... but it did happen?
I don't know how something like that could happen to a professional base-
ball team, but it happened? Survive all that crap-ass baseball and then blow
a four run lead with two outs? It really happened?

From the New York Times:

]Even though Ramon Castro hit his first home run of the season on Friday, and even though the Mets added two runs in the ninth inning, Castro could not sneak that extra run across. More galling, he could not score from second base on a double after he slowed down, thinking the third-base coach Manny Acta was telling him to stop when Acta was actually giving the sign to Cairo, the trailing runner. Castro was easily thrown out at the plate.

"I thought it was for me," Castro said of the sign from Acta. "It was a mistake. It was my mistake."

There's nothing in scapegoating that displays the presence of "gonads." Quite the opposite.

It took a lot players to lose yesterday.

This loss killed me.

Cliff had to make that play. Cairo had to make that play. Castro had to score.

bleh. We suck

My guess is that Acta was above the picture, fully expecting Castro to have run toward home, and concerning himself with the trailing runner and wanting him to put the brakes on without making the turn.
