Once I find the lineups for the this contest between the poorly constructed
Mets, and the sabermetrically constructed first place Gnats, I'll post it.

On the local news last night, the DC sports reporter was practically giving an on air blow job to Hernandez. He was also bitching and moaning incessantly about how the Expos (oops, I mean the Nationals) were screwed by only having two all stars named to the team.

This is consistent with the general tenor down there, where every routine play made by the Nats is treated like a web gem. There's this mindset that every routine thing that this team does has to be treated in the superlative.

"an on air blow job to Hernandez"

Dear Mr. Knight:

I wish you'd reconsider using foul language like this on this family-oriented site. I don't wish to impose my moral or religious values on you, but this seems excessive to me, and I'm sure those of us with small children posting here would agree with me.

Thank you, sir, for considering this humble request.

Will Beltran ever be good? I am begining to have doubts. . .

Scary thought, and I'd be lying if I said it hasn't crossed my mind
from time to time.

I doubt he's through ... but wake up NOW!!!

Heading off the mamby pamby orange and blue eyeglass wearing don't un-
derstand jack squat underwear wearin' pants on the head response, I thought
I'd look up Carlos' sim scores at his age at bbr.

Andre Dawson (947)
Bobby Bonds (943)
Dave Winfield (938)
Jack Clark (936)
Gus Bell (928)
Shawn Green (925)
Harold Baines (923)
Reggie Smith (923)
Gary Sheffield (921)
Johnny Callison (919)

Oh, come on. You KNOW you can't just use Sim Scores to posit anything without writing a book on the subject. That's unproven stuff, man. You know better than that. If you draw any conclusions from this stuff, Edgy will call it "unlikely" and the shit will hit the fan...

Or maybe it's only me who can't cite Sim Scores. I forget.

Anyway, you got some pretty good players in that bunch--a candidate for Best player all time in 2nd place, flanked by two HOFers, followed by a perennial All-Star (though that designation is pretty well eroded by some current selectees) and then an original Met followed up by a Jew...I think you've got a strong field there.

That guy and his damn ab ads are making the games practically unwatchable.

Geez, you're making this too easy.

Who cares who cites what? Anyone? Should we do a poll?

In the meantime, The Mets down quietly in the top of the fifth, and are losing 3-1.

The bottom of the fourth went:

Castilla singled, so did Byrd, so did Jamey Carrol, so did Brad Wilkerson, so did Vidro.

I really think Glavine might be finished. Does any pitcher elicit fewer swing-and-misses?

Can Willie please help me retain my sanity and stop leading off with Reyes?

MLB.com really asks for way too many click-throughs to tell me that no, I can't watch this game.

Bases loaded, top o' the sixth, no one out.

Marlon up.

nice to get two runs out of the bases loaded no outs. . .but 2 f-ing base running blunders? WTF?

Can somebody who hasn't bitten his or her fingers off outline the two outs we appear to have given away in the midst of that rally?

Castro singled home two runs, the throw was to get wright at home but he scored and the ball wasn't handled well by the catcher, however, hernandez backed it up and threw out Castro who was too far off first.

Then Cairo lined out and whoever was on second got doubled up.

Then Reyes bobbles a perfect throw from Castro to give them the stolen base.

The line out was to right field, BTW. . .that wasn't clear.

And Glavine walks Vidro to bring up Guillen. Willie brings in Heilman in a double switch, Offerman (gulp) in at first.
