Huh. So Ring & Koo are both up . . . Well, at least DeJean's gone. Maybe Koo will go back to his pre-injury form . . .

]Mike Cameron had fluid drained from his ailing left quadriceps and could be available Tuesday night

I doubt he'll play tomorrow night.

In the paper that covers the Tides, they said he'd be out at least a month. Of course, that was before it was diagnosed as a fracture, so it'll probably be longer.

I'm a little surprised we didn't send Ring down and call up Padilla.

I don't know Johnny, he's a buddy of Willies...

Gerald Williams? why the hell are the Mets wasting ABs on Gerald Williams?

I'm hoping Willie is smart enough not to be wasting AB's on Gerald Williams.

I hope Willie remembers he still has Victor Diaz on his bench, and in his starting lineup if one of his 3 outfielders can't go. I'd like to see Williams buried behind Floyd, Beltran, Diaz, Cameron, Woodward/Anderson (whichever of the one who isn't playing second base that night) and Brian Daubach.

Well, the real question isn't "Why Williams?" but "Who Else?," even though Williams hadn't done so much this season.

Eric Valent has a .176 batting average, and as he's move valuable longterm than Williams, I want to see him get his stroke before returning, so he doesn't have to pass through waivers again.

Craig Brazell (.249 / .301 / .439 // .740) is an option, but he'd give the team three lefthanded hitters who only play first, unless the Mets dare to squeeze him into the outfield.

Rodney Nye the Organization Guy is playing well (.314 / .390 / .487 // .877). He plays first and third and bats righthanded, so he's a little less redundeant than Brazell. The Mets have never considered him a prospect, but he's been something like a minor league professional hitter.

Prentice Redman has been doing nicely (.309 / .377 / .527), but with only 14 games back in Norfolk, it's unclear if he's turned a corner.

Angel Pagan has also been hot after starting slow (.267 / .322 / .391 // .713), but hasn't shown enough that the Mets are ready to give him a debut yet. They're probably looking for an experienced guy who can possibly help out right away. But even if you argue about how they frame the question, the answer, unsurprisingly, still isn't Gerald Williams. The answer is:

Ron Calloway

Well, I kind of agree with bringing Williams up. We don't have any outfielders playing particularly well in Norfolk right now, so if you're going to bring up an outfielder, you may as well bring up a guy who's been there before. And I do think we need an outfielder, since Cameron & Beltran are playing hurt.

It should allow Willie to use Diaz more, really, since he'll have one more warm body to use late in games--he won't have to worry as much about conserving Diaz.

Doesn't Calloway fullfill the "been there before" requirement without the "old and struggling" footnote?

He also has still has a "young enough to still be hungry" line on his rsum.

I'da preferred Cab too

Well, you all make good points. It seems like Calloway would have made more sense than Williams.

I guess that's what I get for not doing my homework before issuing my missives to Willie . . .
