Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It’s hard to think of any executive who’s had a worse run than Stearns.

This is one of those things that I can’t remember exactly how or when I learned it, but I’d bet it was one of those “behind the scenes” articles about the logistics of getting the team to playoff games, possibly around the time they did that travel at the end of 2024 from Milwaukee to the double-header in Atlanta, then back to Milwaukee.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago They're not going to fire Stearns.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago AJ just got one five inches off the plate but didn't challenge. I don't think rooks feel like they are allowed at the challenge table.

Again Mr. Stearns put us in this position and I'll continue to beat that drum. Even assuming that there is such a thing as a #1 or #2 (see Edgy's post) how was he "asked" to be such when he joined a team with established (to one degree or another) ML starters Senga, Peterson, Manaea, and Holmes on the staff. He more or less became the guy you most felt would give you a good game by turning in 17 straight good starts right out of the gate coupled with regression and/or injuries from each of the others. Hell, we had guys here arguing late last year, as the drive for a playoff spot got dicey, that the Mets were wrong for not bringing him up earlier. This 'not ready' stuff has more than a whiff of looking for ammo to feed a pre-determined conclusion.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I realize he has had the endorsement of upper management, but Mendoza was hanging his head like a doomed man in that inning.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago I'm starting to doubt a comeback here today.

Either you are a big-league starter or you are not. You can't help if other guys on the staff are better than you or worse than you. Talking about the pressure. I'm sure players are aware of media and internal expectations.
