Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 11:15 PM Posted Saturday at 11:15 PM Reports on MLB.com that the Red Sox have fired Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Ramon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek after the team's 10-17 start. Buster Olney has been speculating that Cora belongs on the Phillies.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Sunday at 12:19 AM Posted Sunday at 12:19 AM Must have worked, the Sawx laid a 17-1 whoopin' on the O's today. Not sure if they had scored a combined 17 over their last dozen games prior to today. on edit: Not quite, but they scored 3 or fewer in eight of their last ten ... sounds like another team from the N.E.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Sunday at 12:54 AM Posted Sunday at 12:54 AM I didnt think managers got canned before Memorial Day. I wish we’d follow suit.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted Sunday at 01:22 AM Posted Sunday at 01:22 AM Cora was the manager of the 2018 championship team. Since that time, the Red Sox have not won a division title and have only 2 playoff appearances. The first was 2021, where a second-place team got a wild card and lost in the ALCS. Since then, the Red Sox had 78, 78, and 81 wins in 2022-2024. Last year 89 wins (third place) and got bounced in the Wild Card round. Started the year 10-17.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Sunday at 06:53 PM Posted Sunday at 06:53 PM The 10-17 Red Sox have fired Alex Cora along with five of his coaches. The Sox were coming off a 17-1 win over the Orioles on Saturday, which I guess is the way to go out. Cora was in the second year of a three-year deal. Chad Tracy is the interim replacement. Also cleaning out their desks: Hitting Coach Peter Fatse, Third Base Coach Kyle Hudson, Bench Coach Ramón Vázquez, Assistant Hitting Coach Dillon Lawson, and Major League Hitting Strategy Coach Joe Cronin.

A three-way manager trade with Cora going to the Phillies, Rob Thomson to the Mets, and Carlos Mendoza to the Sox would have been really cool.
