Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21 Posted March 21 As we end the final week without meaningful baseball and enter the seven month ride, it's time to look at what's on the slate for the coming week. whippoorwill 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 OK, I've obviously done something wrong as I was trying to get the spreadsheet to appear in the thread (this is why the 'Preview' feature was helpful). Looks like I got it now. btw, contrary to what was mentioned in another thread, I don't see a 'Hide' toggle anywhere. whippoorwill 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 And that stand-alone Yanx & SFG game to open the season? ... it's a freakin' NetFlix exclusive!! Way to have a captive audience for a prime time game between two coastal glamour teams and then shut a large percentage of them out. Also, that series goes Wed - Fri - Sat making the first Sunday of the season an off-day for both.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 How many OD starts in each pitcher's career (including the upcoming one).

In addition to that, the second game of the season for Angels @ Astros and Guardians @ Mariners [Friday] will be Apple+ exclusives.

Putting a game there is far different than Apple TV. Netflix has about 65 million subscribers in the US, which is comparable to ESPN’s current penetration.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 So, in last night's MLB opener, Yanqui SS Jose Cabellaro becomes the first ML player to challenge a B/S call via the ABS system ... and he lost!! He thought it was up and in but it caught the corner. Worse than that he blew one of the two Yanx' challenges in a totally low leverage situation: top 4th, no one on, none out (first pitch of the inning in fact) Yanx leading 5-0. Yanx went on to a 7-0 win so no big deal in the end. But those kind of selfish checks are going be a problem now and then and it'll bite some team in the ass before long, which is part of what the challenge system good. On the other hand, his head tap meant his helmet was immediately whisked away for authentication by the BB HoF ... so he's got that going for him. Now he and first-DH Ron Bloomberg can hang out together as charter members of the Yanquis-only weird rules lounge and have a few pops.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 90 year old!! Sandy Koufax is in the stands for LAD opening day game. He looks every one of his 65 years old. On the NL East front, the Phils and Nats both won so we're tied with them. The Braves and Marlins are two of the six teams that don't start their seasons until Friday.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I watched part of the DBacks Dodgers game last night. I realize I'm so baseball starved, I really enjoyed watching completely random game between teams I don't like. It's funny though. In this wild card era I have no idea who I should be rooting for. Normally I'd be rooting for the Dodgers to lose, but it occurs to me that the DBacks might be a team I'll end up rooting against in the WC standings. Like, I'm sure I rooted for the Reds sometime in early 2025 when they played the Phils or Braves.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Posted March 27 This early in the season, it’s pretty easy: -In order of importance, we want the Phillies, Braves, and Dodgers to lose. -Everyone else in the NL is irrelevant until they prove otherwise. -I don’t even think about the Junior Circuit unless the Mets are playing one of their teams.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 The Giants have hosted the Yanx for their first two games and will go into tomorrow's game still looking for their first run scored. Shut out 7-0 on Wednesday and now 3-0 today on a whopping four total hits.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Braves up 1-0 over KC. Marlins leading the Rox 2-0. NL east threatening to go 5-0 on Opening Day.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 Braves now up 4-0 in the 5th and the Marlins up 2-1 after six. Philly & Washington, like us, are waiting until Saturday for their Game #2
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 28 Posted March 28 NL East is now 5-0. Mets fail to gain ground in this very tight race.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It doesn’t feel good to root for the Yankees, but it would be nice if SF was not a factor this year. NYY up 3-1 and threatening to sweep. KC leads Atlanta 1-0. Old friend Michael Wacha with 6 scoreless.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 Philly scored three after two out and no one on in bottom 9 to tie the game [K, GO, 1B, BB, E-foul popup, 2-RBI double, RBI single] ... and then promptly lost it in the 10th (allowed two but only countered with one). - Nats got thumped by Cubs (the reverse of Thursday's opener) - Marlins won their second vs Colorado
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 Dom Smith - walk-off Grand Slam - Braves They went into the 9th down 2-0, and scored six with just one out. BB - 1B - PO - RBI 1B - BB - RBI 1B (off pitcher) - GS
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 And the Yanquis sweep, allowing just one run to SFG over three games.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 So the Braves & Phils also lost on Sunday so the only undefeated team in the NL East is ... your Miami Marlins!! All four other NLE teams are 2-1 as we end the first half-week of the 2026 season.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I really liked the booth talking up Dom yesterday and mentioning what a great guy he is "One of the all time great guys "

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Pittsburgh and Reds: hardly anyone there
