Okay, so what we typically do to prevent asshats from destroying the off-topic forum is that we hide it behind two things:

1. Post count
2. Time since registration

After X number of posts, users are moved to the Old-Timey group, which can see that forum. Because we just migrated users yesterday, sometimes this functionality is broken. If you'd like access to this forum, just private message me and I'll toggle it on for you.

I don't think anyone should be denied access to the Non-BB forum. But even if that is the case here, certainly all of the carry-overs from CPF (which at this point means everyone) should have access.

For sure, and I'm happy to add anyone who wants that access.

The reason I'm getting out in front of it is because there's political talk in that forum, and we'll be attracting new users. I've seen what happens in those forums when new users are given access immediately. It ends in bans, and lots of headaches. This way we have a natural buffer of existing members not being exposed to people who register just to stir trouble in political threads, which is sadly common.

You motivated me to search for something I've never looked for before: a tool to isolate usergroups, and move users en masse.

Everybody with an account here is now an Old-Timey member, which means this thread is now irrelevant.

I get all that. But I'd prefer to Not default to prior restraint.

interesting... it's both anathema to what we've ever done, and yet also a pretty good solution to a trollerific problem.  it'd never really been a problem because, honestly, whose gonna find us - not even dedicated mets fans, most of the time lol.  let alone anyone whod be bothered to bother us (at least, not as an internet rando...)

its like a captcha.  i kinda dig it.    how many posts does it take to get to the center of the non-baseball forum pop?
