Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I don't think we have a thread on this yet ... soPhilly OF Nick Castellanos has been told by the club to NOT report to the team's ST complex this week pending either his trade or release.Castellanos is coming up on the fifth, and final, year of a $100 million contract with Philly but is also coming off a 250/294/400 [88 OPS+]/negative (-1.0) WAR season with the Phightens and has been told that there "isn't a locker for him" at Philly's ST complex. He also clashedwith Philly manager Robbie Thompson on a couple of occasions in 2025 and is considered a defensive liability.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I empathize with Castellanos, as The Phillies have also asked me not to report for Spring Training. whippoorwill 1
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Released, and a not coming out looking greathttps://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6852239/2026/02/12/nick-castellanos-phillies-divorce/The beginning of the end for Nick Castellanos’ time in Philadelphia came on the night when the $100 million outfielder cracked open a Presidente beer and carried the green bottle into the Phillies dugout in the middle of a game. It was a Monday in June, in the eighth inning, and Castellanos believed he had been disrespected at the highest level. Edited February 13 by metirish
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 13 Posted February 13 [bLOCKQUOTE]Castellanos, many of his teammates argued, was not a team player. This was an important distinction to make. His candor, appreciated by some because there was never any guessing about where Castellanos stood, was not for everyone. A team player, Phillies sources said, would have understood that late-inning defensive substitutions were not necessarily an indictment of his abilities. The team had a better chance to win that game with a defensive upgrade. A team player, Phillies sources said, would not play music from his own portable speaker if he personally had a good game after a Phillies loss.Numerous players had grievances with management regarding strategy or usage; these were usually expressed in private settings. Castellanos was different. He was most outward with his disdain for two people, Thomson and hitting coach Kevin Long. He did not trust them, he told teammates, because they had never played in the majors[/bLOCKQUOTE]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Well, that's sort of embarrassing to me, because I guess I always thought Phillies Manager Rob Thomson was former longtime San Francisco Giants secondbaseman Robby Thompson, and it seems it took Nick Castellanos to finally take me to school. No wonder the Philies didn't invite me to camp. That said, Rob Thomson has now led his team to four straight post-seasons in less than four years on the bench, including a mid-season turnaround leading to a pennant in his first year. You put together a record like that, and it seems awful strange for someone to care if you played in the majors 25 years ago. Or played in Little League, for that matter.Kevin Long as well, for that matter, is about to enter into his 20th straight season as an MLB hitting coach. That includes two championship teams and a couple of pennants and a whole bunch of post-season money. (He taught Carlos Beltran to switch hit!) Not liking the guy is fine, but having a hangup about what he did before all that would be kind of funny.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13 Posted February 13 He sounds like a douche to me Yeah, you'd think he'd have fit in better with the Phillies than he did.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Part-time PHI OF Johan Rojas is the latest contestant in the 'step right up and collect your PED suspension' game. This would be the first violation for Rojas so, unlike Profar in Atlanta, it's only an 80-game ding/post-season ban for him.A Philly since 2023, Rojas started 40, 103, and 46 games in CF over the past three seasons plus saw action in 15-20 G/yr as a late inning defensive replacement.Reports say he is appealing although I don't find him to be so.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Daniel Robert, Phillies reliever (he appeared against the Mets last year) just suffered the second cardiac arrest of his career today, during what was his first bullpen session after signing a minor-league deal in February. He first collapsed during a session back in October, which — after lifesaving medical care — he was fitted with an internal defibrillation device. He is reported to be stable and conscious (and out of the hospital!), but man.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Castellanos will be poisoning the Padres dugout this year. Phillies will still pay him $20 million not to play for them.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Phillies definitely have a lot of drama this year. Alex Bohm is suing his parents. https://nypost.com/2026/03/26/sports/phillies-alec-bohm-suing-parents-for-3-million-for-alleged-misuse-of-finances/
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Wow. Thanksgiving dinner is gonna be real ugly at the Bohm's this year. whippoorwill 1

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 One might say that story is a Bohmshell. Also, the widow of longtime Philly announcer Harry Kalas isn't happy with the club. "Harry the K's" has been a section in LF which has existed since the park opened in 2004 and continued after Harry died in early 2009. The widow has been being paid $20,000/yr for the use of Harry's 'name, image, likeness' (as they'd say in college sports these days) but the Phils recently decided to sell the naming rights of that area to 'Ghost Energy' which, in the opinion of the aggrieved widow, "betrayed him". “Taking down that sign takes away everything he did for the city,” Eileen Kalas told The Inquirer. “I think they betrayed Harry. It’s not about me. It’s about what they’re doing to Harry. I think they betrayed him for everything he did for them.” The club missed the deadline to break the contract this year so she'll still get paid in 2026 but not starting in 2027. Wondering what they'll do with the statue of Harry she said, "I'll take that too if they no longer want it ... I'll send a truck and pick it up"
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 30 Posted March 30 They got rid of him way too early in 2023 and the fella they got in return, Jeremy Rodriguez, ain't looking too hot down there on the farm. Glad to have him back.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Bohm has also dropped The Boras Corporation and gone back to his original agents.
