A lot of reports coming out of Philadelphia that the Phils had a handshake agreement with Bichette on a seven-year, $200 million dollar deal and were "livid" that he pulled out. They pivoted to re-sign J.T. Realmuto at three years, $45 million.

They seem to be feeding stories to the local media that the Mets sweeping in and stealing was a panic move that is going to end up costing the Mets $90 million for one season (I confess, I did not see where that math came from), but that is clearly an attempt to take the heat off of themselves.

I saw an article that seemed AI generated that said that the Phillies were furious at the Mets, but didn't provide any details. I can see that they may be angry at the player but it doesn't seem reasonable that they'd be angry at the team that signed him. There are so many ****** news reports out there. And it's only likely to get worse over time.

I’m still trying to convince myself that Bo Bichette is good enough to hit behind Soto.

Is he?

He was good enough to hit behind Vladdy Jr., so…yes?

Of course, I suppose there is an open question about the best way to structure the top of the lineup. One wonders about Soto leadoff with Lindor and Bichette following. Or Bichette leading off with Soto and then Lindor.

So I’ve been trying to get familiar with Bo. I was surprised to see he doesn’t walk a lot. His OBP isn’t that high for someone who hovers around .300 for BA. And although he has power, he’s not really a power hitter. And he doesn’t really seem like much of a stolen base threat either.

But what he does though, is hit. He makes contact, hits for average, and shoots the gaps. And though we talk about RISP being inconsistent from year to year, it seems like Bo does it all the time. RISP, close and late, for him it’s repeatable. And the reports are that he hits good pitching (closers).

I don’t think pitchers will fear him the way they feared Pete. But it seems like Bo might be more likely to drive him in, or at least keep the rally going.

According to this ESPN Brazil report, Bo Bichette will not be participating in the WBC after all. Instead of playing for Brazil, he'll be focused on learning third base and recovering from his injury this March with the Mets.

This is encouraging. I dig the WBC but I'm still leery after what happened to Sugar in 2023
