Butt was a prominent part of his name and a prominent part of his physique.

Seemed like an aggressive pitcher who got everything around the plate. Seemed wasn't worth much, however, as he didn't get a whole lot over the plate. Somehow was generally successful despite a walk rate consistently over 4.

Seemed (that word again) like he spent most of 2025 trying to catch up.

Cool calm head, looked to Heaven when walking off the mound. First appeared in 2022 and has stuck with 70 every year since then, which I guess makes him our all-time 70. Three roses tatted on his forearm.

I liked him and thought he was an underrated weapon on that 2024 squad.

I don't have a moment in mind tho

Got mostly roughed around six games in the 2024 post-season, and that may have been a factor as the team decided he was expendable.

The two home runs he gave up in Milwaukee last October set the stage for Pete Alonso's memorable home run.

Started the Mark Canha Game (lit up in his MLB debut) and Doc’s number retirement game (9 Ks in 6 IP). Inevitably the guy I’d forget was in the pen.

Probably holds the Mets record for the shortest time between getting traded and getting a returning-hero scoreboard tribute.

They Joey Lucchesi'd him (or perhaps Lucchesi was Butto'd) in that despite him clearly having talent, they didn't use him much for a long time, wasting his abilities. He was a fairly well regarded prospect in the Mets system coming up, but nothing too special, but once he got here he was a very reliable piece that I wish they'd used more.

Ultimately I think my lasting memory of him will be his teary goodbyes in the bullpen when he found out about the trade, more than anything he did on the field.
