Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 -Costs nothing but cash. No prospects needed to trade, no draft picks lost by signing him. -Obvious extensive experience as a high-leverage reliever.-Wants to get paid (a $15M annual salary was the reported ask), but maybe that’s pro-ratable now.The Athletic reporting that Mets are among teams that have “at least recently looked into Robertson.”This seems like a no-brainer for a billionaire owner of a team that could use an extra arm.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Forty years old and hasn't appeared in a game since 2024.It may be a no-brainer to look, but the decision on whether or not buy will require brain thinking. Scouting. Cost-benefit analysis.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2025 Author Posted July 15, 2025 Yeah, I think we all realize that they’d need to make sure his arm’s still attached, see him throw, check the radar readings, and everything else. I think you know that too and don’t actually think there was a suggestion that wouldn’t happen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I don't see a signing as a no-brainer. I see it as a maybe.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 The problem with doing this so late is that you have no idea if he's going to suck until after the deadline has passed.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 He has yet to really suck in his career, so he's a surer bet than the umpteenth waiver claim that hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 with a 6.54 career ERA. The Mets should give him and Kimbrel a shot. Kimbrel is wasting away in the minors right now and even since he started his decline, he's still pitched about as well as perhaps an Ottavino.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Author Posted July 21, 2025 Signed with Philly for $5.5M. (It’s a one-year $16M deal, prorated for the partial season remaining).
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Mets snooze and lose, assumed they wanted Robertson
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 I'd be curious if the Mets were outbid, or if Robertson simply chose Philly.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Author Posted July 21, 2025 Indeed. I saw that the “true” cost to the Phillies is closer to $12M because of the luxury tax thresholds - so probably would be similar for the Mets. But even at $12M this seems like it would have been a good option, assuming the Mets were interested (I would surely think so) and that Robertson was (who knows?)
