At 5'8" tall and a stocky 175 pounds, Jett may be short, but he isn't exactly small. He is an 18 year old shortstop out of Rockwall-Heath High School in Texas that is signed, sealed, and delivered. The 14th overall pick in the 2022 draft has agreed to terms ($3.9 Mill.) with the Mets and will be heading to Florida within the week.

Jett brings a right handed bat that has proven to be proficient at barreling up pitches. He is a line drive hitter with surprising power. Most scouts considered Jett one of the best combinations of hitting and speed available in the draft. He has good hands and is considered to have the defensive chops to be a true major league shortstop in the future. Many scouts believe that he could also slot well defensively at second base or centerfield if need be.

His father and uncle both attended Stony Brook University and Jett lived on Long Island as a young child, so he has a New York connection.

Welcome to the Mets family Jett.

He already has some great walk up music just made for him when he reaches the show.

Damn, I never can remember how to post youtube videos. Anyway, the opening of "Jet" by Paul McCartney & Wings would be a great walk up for Jett Williams.

He also gives such lie to all the stuff my friend relayed about his son and implied that size matters too much than it obviously does in Jetts case at least. I think that means what i "missed" and should have probably said is that size only matters when they "weed out" they guys who are "iffy" to begin with.

There's an old line about how the small guy has to prove he can play while the big guy has to prove he can't.

So, yeah, particularly when they're in the early stages of of rating talent, the smaller ones really need to stand out in order get selected.

With your friend's kid, if he shines in JuCo maybe that gets him to a bigger school which, if he continues to improve, makes him a draft pick even if he never gets any bigger.

Jett obviously has enough skills and potential to not just get drafted but make the top half of the 1st round. Do that and they stop caring how tall you are.

Or, hopefully, he gets offered a late scholarship to take the place of Jett or some other draftee who "committed" to a school but took the money instead.

Thanks for the assist, KC.

Jett is off to a pretty nice start in the Rookie League.

In 32 ABs he has put up .250/.366/.804 with 1 HR and 6 stolen bases.

I didn't do anything, just wanted to see if thread was functioning.

Well, the Avi was here renewed the activity of the thread which then let me post in it.

I don't know if it is my settings (or something else), but I can only post in threads that have active recently (or since I last logged in). I can only see and respond to new posts, even in long threads that are 4-5 pages long. Very frustrating.

With today's rainout of the game against the Gaurdians , I figured it was a good time check in to see how Jett was getting along with the Port St. Lucie Mets (A). Through 26 games he has 20 appearances at shortstop, 4 in CF, and 2 at DH. He seems to be struggling a bit at the plate thus far. In 119 plate appearances he has 18 hits for a .209 average. He has however drawn 23 walks and been hit by 8 pitches so his OBP is a healthy .412 and he is 9 of 13 in steal attempts. He has 8 errors in 70 chances at shortstop, but he is young, so hopefully he will get steadier. He has all the tools to be a good defender.

He has been promoted to AA Binghamton.

His third level this year. He already has 100 BB (combined) for the season.

Williams has three hits in his first nine at-bats in Double-A, and is slashing .267/.431/.461 with 13 homers, 22 doubles, eight triples, and 44 steals in 117 games across three levels this season.

From Metsmerized:

Jett Williams, who has battled injury for the majority of 2024, is set to join Syracuse for the remainder of their season. Double-A Binghamton, where Williams was playing, saw their season end on Sunday. As a result, Williams will get to face a step up in competition as Syracuse doesn’t see their regular season end until September 22.

Williams has only had 99 at-bats this season, missing a majority of the year due to injury. In 12 at-bats with Low-A St. Lucie during his rehab stint, Williams hit .250. For Double-A Binghamton, Williams struggled, posting a .172/.287/.241 (.528 OPS) slash line across 87 at-bats.

Jett is having a solid start to his season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Through 38 games and 158 ABs, Jett is slashing .284/.373/.485/.858 with 4 HRs and 9 SB in 12 attempts.

He is primarily playing SS. He has 27 starts at SS, 5 starts in CF, 5 starts as DH, and 1 start at 2B. Overall, he has 6 errors on 82 chances as a shortstop. He is error free in his 5 games in CF and 1 game at second.

Overall, a rather promising AA season for a 21 year old, though his error rate at SS is pretty high.

From metsmerized.com:

Jett Williams had an awesome week for Double-A Binghamton, earning the Eastern League Player of the Week award.

He hit .385/.467/.962 with two home runs, three doubles, and two triples during the week. In his last four games, he went 8-for-15, with all eight hits being for extra bases. In 55 games this season, he’s been on fire, racking up a .926 OPS with six home runs and 24 RBIs.

As the season moves into August, Jett is still putting up solid numbers in Binghamton. He is currently hitting .278 with a .388 OBA. OPS is a solid .870 with 10 home runs and he has 29 steals in 35 attempts. He has played shortstop the majority of time (55 games), with appearances in CF, second base, and DH. Pretty good for a 21 year old.

Jett has found it tougher sledding since moving up to AAA Syracuse. In 20 games with Syracuse, he is hitting .215 with .284 OBA. They are moving him around more in Syracuse. He has logged 8 games at shortstop, 8 in CF, and 6 at second base.

Williams' performance in 2025, .261/.363/.465 with 17 homers, 52 RBI and 34 steals, gives me enough confidence to want to see him in 2026. He hit .209/.285/.433 at Triple-A, but I'd still like to see what he can do.

All my adoptees either burnout in the minors, or get traded away before ever donning a Mets uniform. So it is with Jett Williams SS/CF as he has been traded to Milwaukee, along with RHP Brandon Sproat, for RHP Freddie Peralta & RHP Tobias Myers.

Fair thee well, young Jett. I will be pulling or you to make good.

Jett suffered a left quad injury while legging out a triple and missed 2 weeks of spring training.  He has recovered and will open the season for the Brewers Triple A affiliate in Nashville.  The Brewers are focusing his development primarily at shortstop.

Live long and propser, young Jett.

Not tearing it up yet at Triple-A. He has a .223 average in 26 games for the Nashville Sounds. His career line at that level is .228/.329/.394. Then again, he's only 22.
