Of the nine position players listed on the Giants' BB-Ref page:

- two: Luis Arraez (PHI) and Heliot Ramos (NYY), were traded at the deadline

- three others: (3B) Matt Chapman, (C) Daniel Susac, (SS) Wily Adames, are on the IL

That leaves: Rafael Devers, DH Bryce Eldridge, and OFs Drew Gilbert and Jung Hoo Lee as full/full-ish season active guys. Their nine other active position players are call-ups/replacements who have fewer than 150 ABs this year, most of them have yet to hit even the 100 mark.

Oh, and most of the pitching staff is on the IL as well. This will be the 4th ML start for Matt Wilkerson, a 26 y/o Canadian lefty drafted in the 10th round in 2023 out of Central Arizona College

Perhaps given all that, the Giants were a predictable 10 - 18 in August and now sit five games behind the Mets in overall standings.

Wilkinson pitched in the 2015 LLWS. Always fun when one of the kids realizes his dream. His nickname is Tugboat. And his frame matches.

Are we gonna get a slice from Blade Tidwell this series?

Nope.  Started this afternoon for the Giants in Pittsburgh, took the loss, despite 2 ER in 5 innings.

Great.  And Jose Butto is on the 60.

I better see some Drew Gilbert action this weekend.  I'd hate to think that trade was for nothing!

Nick getting the start in center. A good move to protect the alley with Soto in left.

I really didn't think we'd see Soto on defense the rest of the season.

I think the alley is fine with Ewing in center.  Morabito is just getting a chance with a lefty on the mound.  Soto and Benge are the only lefty bats in the lineup.  Young, Ewing, and Baty are all sitting.

Osleivis Basabe has three cousins who played MLB ball.

Not surprising since it's pretty easy to see that you can't spell BASEBALL without Basabe

McLean can sure dig himself out of a jam.

But he shouldn't keep setting them up to prove it.

I think the Rutgers debacle Thursday night is also why we haven't heard from Ashie today.

Lee keeps coming up with men on base ... so it's nice that there's a seven six-run lead.

Also nice that he keeps going hit-less.

This is the third straight series where the Mets face an offense with one guy you don't want to let beat you.

And damned if that guy doesn't find his way into beating them anyhow.

Look at Soto out there in left field for the ninth, even after making the last out in the eighth.

Ain't no role for Cristian Pache with Morabito up, except to use him here.

And yet.

I was at this game. It was a slog. McLean didn’t look sharp at all. What did it look like on TV?

All I could tell was that umpire’s arm wasn’t moving.
