Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Establishing yourself as a rookie in the majors is cool. Establishing yourself as a rookie on the Mets is even better. Establishing yourself early enough and staying in the lineup enough to climb the team's all-time rookie-season hit list? Well, that's the coolest. Your job, as observers of rookies is to name the top 30 rookie hitmakers in team history. I ask that all answers be THE PLAYERS NAME plus what you think you remember to be HIS ROOKIE YEAR in which he gained those hits. I need you NOT TO CHEAT. If you look up these players to garner correct answers, no one will be impressed. Moreover, if you do this, may all your sweetest memories of your first love be forever tainted and corrupted. If you are thinking of cheating right now, I SEE YOU. Your thoughts are NAKED UNTO ME. SIX POINTS for a correct guess of a PLAYER'S NAME. THREE BONUS POINTS for correctly naming THE ACTUAL ROOKIE YEAR the guy compiled those hits in, two for coming within a year of correctly naming that rookie year, etc. ONE TENTH OF A BONUS POINT TIMES THE RANK OF THE SLOT THE GUY FILLS, so you get 0.1 bonus points for naming the top guy, but three bonus points for naming the 30th guy. MINUS TWO POINTS for INCORRECT GUESSES. What's with those PROJECTIONS on the list? Well, those are projections, not actual seasons, but you name what projections those are, and TEN POINTS await you. TEN! Typical rules of ONE GUESS PER POST and NO CONSECUGUESSING. BEST OF LUCK!! # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 PROJECTION 4 15 PROJECTION 5 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 PROJECTION 6 24 25 26 27 28 29 30
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago Ron Hunt 1963 is correct for 9.3 points. He had 145 hitaroonies. Mike Vail 1977 (not 1978) had an impressive hitting streak, but not a lot of season-long traction, and finished just outside the money with 73 hits. # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 1 2 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 5 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 PROJECTION 4 15 PROJECTION 5 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 PROJECTION 6 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 SCORING MFS62: 9.3 ashie62: -2.0

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Man you guys are stealing my ‘77 guys. Wayne Garrett…..1967🤔?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago So Jefferies had TWO rookie seasons -- even got RoY points for two different seasons -- a breakout month-plus which was great for him but still not enough to ruin his rookie stats for the next year. So does that second rookie year count as to this quiz? If so, 1989 would be the year to count for him.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 8 hours ago Author Posted 8 hours ago 4 hours ago, Johnny Lunchbucket said: Lee Mazzilli 1977 I'm sorry not to have answered this sooner, as I was out walking dogz. Lee Mazzill was not (!!) originally on my list. This was because I assembled my list through a dataquery with FanGraphs, and they apparently think 1976 was the year in which Mazzilli burned his rookieness. But he didn't debut until September 7. FanGraphs is wrong, and the fact that they report Mazzilli as having attended "Lincoin High School" more than confirms it. That may mean this whole list is fucked up, but we will have to take that as it comes. 4 hours ago, MFS62 said: Never mind I had two players confused. Later OK! 4 hours ago, Gwreck said: Jay Payton, 2000, number 12 on the list. You don't need to guess the slot on the list, but I like your spirit. You DO get points for guessing guys in lower slots though. You get six points for Payton, three more for getting his season right, and .4 for degree of difficulty. 4 hours ago, kcmets said: Gregg Jefferies, late 80's. *runs and ducks from flying sneakers* Six points for Gregg with a 0.9 bonus for degree of difficulty. I can't give you credit on the year thing, but I'll take any sneakers anybody wants to toss your way. I'll take 'em myself! Bastards. 3 hours ago, Johnny Lunchbucket said: Steve Henderson, also 1977 Half a season, but a whole lot of hits! That's 10.6 more points (and a jolt into the lead!) for you, with our highest degree of difficulty of the kwiz so far! 3 hours ago, MFS62 said: Doc T's avatar Wayne Garrett 1969 Down around #28 (Since Vail just missed) Later It took a bit of time to get regular work, but Wayne got in there often enough to get 87 hits and achieve what is still the 26th hittiest season for a Mets rookie. He gets you 11.6 points as a high-risk guess. Welcome to the lead! (But don't get a big head!) 3 hours ago, Johnny Lunchbucket said: somebody guess so I dont consecuguess and/or forget all the answers I have Good strategy! If you consecuguess, I will come to your home and make your life miserable. 3 hours ago, Johnny Lunchbucket said: Alonso, 2019 There's our all-time leader! Not associated with base hits, but he sure got enough of them while he played every damned day! Low degree of difficulty, but points is points, and your 9.1 additionals get you back in the top position. 3 hours ago, whippoorwill said: Man you guys are stealing my ‘77 guys. Wayne Garrett…..1967🤔? Sorry, too late! No points deducted, but no points garnered, sadly! 3 hours ago, Frayed Knot said: So Jefferies had TWO rookie seasons -- even got RoY points for two different seasons -- a breakout month-plus which was great for him but still not enough to ruin his rookie stats for the next year. So does that second rookie year count as to this quiz? If so, 1989 would be the year to count for him. This sounds more like a thought experiment than an answer, so I won't field it as one. In addition to the 1989 guess that kcmets has knocked off the board, Jefferies got 35 hits in his proto-rookie year. That would have counted had it punctured our top 30, but alas, it did not. 3 hours ago, Gwreck said: Ty Wigginton, 2003 And it was the Wigtonic One whose record Pete Alonso broke. Despite merely keeping David Wright's position warm, Ty got into 156 games in 2003 and stuck 146 balls in fair territory. That's 9.2 points for you! 3 hours ago, MFS62 said: Darryl Strawberry 1983 Later Yeah! He was pretty good! One of only two non-pitching RoYs for the Metlanders! That's 10.4 points and a return to the head of the pack. 3 hours ago, Gwreck said: Ike Davis, 2010 That pachyderm is smiling because you just got 9.5 points.
